Going toxic free with your beauty products and your home in general really boils down to make swaps for less harmful items as you run out. Don’t make it a stressful thing. However, with nail polish, I say just toss everything that you have and start with scratch. These toxic free nail polish brands are not an expensive investment.

Why choose toxic free nail polish?

It’s pretty simple: most of your favorite nail polish is filled to the brim with bad chemicals. I know. I know. It’s disappointing. And I get that it might seem harmless because it just sits on tops of your nail beds, however, those nasty chemicals can easily seep inside your skin and straight into your blood stream. You don’t  want that to happen, I promise.

Not only are these chemicals bad for you and can cause things like breaking and brittle nails in the long-run, but they are also bad for the environment. While it is near impossible it to be 100% toxic free nail polish, there are things you can look out for that will make things so much better for you. And I even take my toxic free nail polish to the nail salon with me, if they do not carry their own.

5-Free Toxic Nail polish

Toxic free nail polish is typically placed in one of two categories: 3-free and 5-free. 3-free means that the brand does not use the known carcinogens toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), or formaldehyde. The brands that are 5-free take things one step further and also ban formaldehyde resin or camphor, too.
