Remember back in October I revealed the horror that happened to my closet whenever (as I call it) the entire clothes rack exploded? I immediately had to call my friends at Box Butler to help me get organized (aka cart some stuff out of my tiny apartment) and get myself back on track. Well, here we are again just a few short months later, and I am embarrassed to admit that it collapsed again last Saturday, then again the following Monday. Yup, I have a problem.
If it wasn’t convincing enough whenever my super came up to figure out how he was going to deal with my closet explosion and then laughed in my face, my husband came home after a busy day of work to find me in a small space on our bed (the tiniest area I was able to clear), surrounded by what my closet had previously contained.
“I have no words,” he said.
“I will get to it tonight and re-organize everything, I just had a busy day with no break to clean yet,” I responded, rather pathetically.
“Ali, this time you need to get rid of things, or I will,” he finished.
So I organized and called Box Butler again – shipping more things away. But I came to realize that I have a bigger problem that needs to be dealt with.
My 2015 Motivating Wardrobe Resolutions
Starting this new year, I need to let change wash over me and live a bit more minimalistic in the clothing department. I’m certain that I can’t be the only woman in the world dealing with these bothersome habits, so here are my motivating wardrobe resolutions that I promise to follow – as long as YOU do!
1. Get organized
Back in September, we learned from the great Lisa Zaslow of Gotham Organizers how to get our closets in check and organized with a fashion consciousness. This is a great place to start, as it will help keep you motivated and in a creative mind frame as you work to get your wardrobe in check. This guide will help you navigate your wardrobe in an organized manner – positioning specific items to be within reach and handy when you need them. Read more here.
2. Buy more of what I need and less of what I want.
Being a WAHM, blogger, business owner, and freelance writer means a lot of time spent behind the computer in yoga pants, not dressed up and running around the city. Therefore, this is becoming my mantra for 2015 as I need to not buy as many trendy “dress up” items that wait for me in my closest until I’m ready to shed my leggings and put them on. I need to buy more durable yet adorable yoga pants so I have them on hand, folded in my drawer waiting for me.
3. Out with the old, in with the new – be consistent!
If I make new purchases, I need to make sure they are replacing something that I don’t need anymore. There needs to be a reason that I’m making this purchase beyond just “loving” the item. Moving into 2015, this is a very easy wardrobe resolution to make and keep. Whenever something new comes in, something old must go!
These three simple tips should motivate you and help you feel ready to tackle your wardrobe issues like I have done and live 2015 happily and more organized – until next year!
P.S. I also have to be very frank and say that my research of organizing and then re-organizing my closet has proven that my husband’s sweaters are pretty heavy, and definitely part of the problem. Just sayin’.

Heading here from the Monday Mashup. I, too, am trying to streamline. I mean, how many pairs of black leggings are NEEDED? I only wear about 20% of what I own. I’ve eliminated a lot of unnecessary pieces and limited shopping for sport, but I still have a LONG way to go!

Great points- especially #3. I need to get better about getting rid of something old when I bring something new in. Thanks for sharing at the Monday Mash-Up!

I’ve come over from Jenn’s monday mash up aswell. It’s so hard to let go of the cute stuff though. I to am working on the whole wardrobe decluttering thing. Good luck and get hubby’s jumpers some separate storage!
