I am totally guilty of neglecting my hair. I’m really good about making sure that my skincare routine is done everyday. And I love me a good overnight beauty treatment to save time, too. But my hair? It gets forgotten about. Because of the state of my hair after having Blake, I’ve honestly almost written it off as a lost cause. Being introduced to these diy hair mask recipes have made a major impact in my overall hair health. (They are also wonderful for postpartum hair, too!)

How do these hair mask recipes work?
Just like face masks, these diy hair mask recipes coat your hair and stay on for a long period of time, compared to basic shampooing and conditioning. They work deep down to correct issues you are having, to moisturize, and simply to revive your damaged tresses and bring them back to life.
And side note: I get asked about what clean conditioner and shampoo I use before applying these masks and I always turn to our Beautycounter Daily Shampoo and Conditioner. I refuse to use anything else because I just haven’t found a brand that is as transparent about what goes into their products as we are.

3 DIY Hair Mask Recipes
You will love the diy hair mask recipes!
1. Avocado Banana
I love whenever diy hair mask recipes are made from things that you just have laying around your kitchen and this is a great one! Fruits and vegetables have so many amazing vitamins and minerals in them that work wonders on our hair, just like inside our bodies.
Combine a half of an avocado, one egg, a half of a banana, a tablespoon of coconut oil, one cup of water and a fourth cup of apple cider vinegar, Stir in a bowl and then lather on your hair from scalp to ends. This is enough for 2 masks so it’s great for a spa day with a friend, or just put it in a covered glass jar in your refrigerator and use again the following week.
2. Overnight deep moisture mask
This mask is for those of you who have deep damage in your hair. What’s great about this is that you can throw it on your hair at the end of the day, cover your head with some plastic wrap and sleep with it on. You simple wake up and wash and dry as normal.
Combine 1 teaspoon argon oil, 2 teaspoons coconut oil, 1 teaspoon shea butter with your favorite essential oils for hair.
3. Yogurt and Honey Hair Mask
I love this because it has only these two simple ingredients that not only smell amazing but work wonders for not only deep nourishing, but also helps to fight frizz!
Combine 1 tablespoon honey with 2 tablespoons full fat greek yogurt. Leave on for 20 minutes and wash and dry as normal.
How often should you use these diy hair mask recipes?
It’s honestly up to you and really depends of how damaged your hair is to begin with. I recommend starting with no more than one time per week because it could make your hair greasy. If you find that your hair needs it more, then slowly increase from there.
