Starting the keto diet plan can be overwhelming. Avoid these 5 keto diet mistakes so that you have weight loss success from the start.

Whether you have been following my weight loss journey this year or not, you know by now that following the keto diet plan is a part of my healthy lifestyle. I have been doing it for so long now (since Blake was just a few months old!) that I could talk about it all day long and it’s truly become a part of me.
But, just like everyone else, I’m still learning.
When I set out to drop some major pounds this year, I learned some new things about the keto diet that I have never known before that I really think hindered my weight loss progress in the past. So if you’re doing the keto diet and wondering why you might have stalled or aren’t losing weight, you might be making these keto diet mistakes.
5 Keto Diet Mistakes to Avoid
In order to do the keto diet correctly and successfully, you don’t have to monitor every little thing, which makes it a wonderful option for busy mamas! However, you should keep these keto diet mistakes in mind and avoid them in order to have success on this plan.
As always, consult your doctor before trying anything new to make sure it’s best for you!
1. You aren’t taking a daily probiotic specifically for a low-carb diet.
Probiotics have been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember because a healthy gut means a healthy body. However, this year I learned that my favorite supplement brand, LifeSeasons, makes a probiotic that is targeted to provide extra aid for people on a low carb or ketogenic diet. Talk about amazing!
Their KETO DIGESTIVI-T supplement is taken daily and helps break down food and promote digestive tract health. It’s specially formulated to help soothe bloating and digestive discomfort associated with high-fat or high-protein diets.
I have been taking this probiotic for two months now and have quickly noticed a difference. I am a bloater, as embarrassing as that is to admit, and have noticed a consistent change in my overall gut health in the most soothing way.
2. You aren’t getting enough electrolytes when hydrating.
I often talk about how important hydration is and personally, I always have a glass of water in my hand or by my side, but it wasn’t until earlier this year that I learned more about the importance of electrolytes in a keto diet. If you aren’t getting enough electrolytes with your water intake, it can greatly hinder your weight loss.
Electrolyte tip: if you like pickle juice, keep it in your refrigerator and take a shot or two of it each day.
3. Your portions are too big.
It’s so easy to think that as long as you are following a keto diet that it is enough….we’ll it’s not. You have to look at how big your portions are and pay attention to calories in versus calories out, too, just like any other weight loss plan.
4. Eating too little or too much fat.
While there is definitely a transition period whenever you start the keto diet where you figure out what is the right amount of fat for you, it’s so important to make sure that you are paying attention to those amounts and your body. Too little fats can lead to you being very hungry and then want to eat things you aren’t supposed to, and eating too much can make you sick to your stomach or put on unwanted weight.
5. Not eating healthy fats.
I’ve heard time and time again from people that a keto diet is so unhealthy. The truth is that if you abuse the diet and eat bacon all day, of course, it is unhealthy. But if you are pulling fats from healthy places like avocados, almonds, healthy oils, etc, it can actually put you in a much healthier cholesterol range. Avoid things like trans fats and yucky vegetable oils and you will be on the right track.
Whether you are considering starting the keto diet or are years in like I am, I recommend picking up LifeSeason’s Keto Digestivi-T and starting it as soon as possible for gut health that truly makes a difference in your daily life.
XOXO,
Allison
