Now that the kids are back in school, we get a little bit of time to focus on ourselves. Here’s what to do with that well earned free time.

5 Things to Do Now That The Kids Are Back in School
Mornings have gotten busier. Lunches are being packed. Instruments are being practiced again. This can all only mean one thing: the kids are back to school. Branden went back last week and is thankfully enjoying his new school so far. I feel like a huge part of him has really matured over the summer because mornings have actually been easier than they were last year. Mom win!
Now, I’m not suggesting that we all have a ton of free time now that the kids are back in school and many of us still have younger ones at home, but I do think there is a little sliver of extra time we have to ourselves. Whether thats when little ones nap or when all your kiddos are at school and you have a moment to breathe in between all the other million things we’re doing. I know we’ve all got a lot on our plates, but make sure you do yourself a favor and don’t overwhelm yourself with all the things you “should” be doing and put some energy into a wee little bit of time for you.
1. Take time for pause.
I can’t stress this enough. What I mean by pause is taking a moment, or 20 moments to turn your brain off of the constant spinning, the scrolling through social media, the cleaning, and the thinking about when we have to pick the kids up from school.
Have a moment for just yourself.
I KNOW that this can be incredibly difficult and it’s something I struggle with, too. Honestly, since we have gotten Oliver this past week, I’ve been enjoying taking many, many pauses just to focus on him and really, really enjoying that break. It’s made me realize that it’s okay to step away, that emails can wait, and that the world won’t end because I hit the pause button.
During these moments, I love to incorporate my favorite Health Warrior Mug Muffins and I’m really digging their new flavor, double chocolate, that just launched this month. It’s a moment where I feel like I’m indulging, but without any guilt that would come along with a typical afternoon desert. They are made from superfoods like ancient grains, nuts, and seeds. Each one is free from whey, soy and gluten, and ready in minutes. What more could a busy mama want?
2. Routine, routine, routine
If you’re like me and really thrive with a routine, implementing a new one now that the kids are back in school will help you recharge. If you don’t love routine, putting one into action will help make you accountable and more organized. Find your groove with the busy school mornings, and then figure out a routine that works for you while the kids are at school all day.
3. Make some goals.
I’ve talked about how important goal setting is for moms in the past and now more than ever is a great time to start putting them to action. Use whatever teeny tiny crevice of alone time or quiet time you might get to start reaching an important goal and you will be surprised how invigorating and life changing (yes…seriously…life changing) those moments can be.
4. Catch up on a favorite show.
The kind that doesn’t include Daniel Tiger or Princess Sofia. This ones just for you, mama!
5. Do something special for yourself.
This doesn’t have to be everyday, but we’ve spent the whole summer building our schedules around our kids and making sure they have fun memories. Even if it’s just once at the beginning of the school year, carve out some time to do something special that is all about you. Why? Because you deserve it!

The moral of the story here is to take some time back for you, mama. We all have this one life to live and I know that it’s built into our brains to always put the kids first in every way, but we have to think about carving out some time and taking necessary pauses for us. And what pairs better with some alone time than a Health Warrior Double Chocolate Mug Muffin? Nothing!
XOXO,
Allison
