Towards the end of 2024, I really jumped back into blogging and creating content on Instagram, a lot of which included fashion and styling tips. I instantly felt invigorated and enjoyed connecting with others in this space. However, I was instantly overwhelmed by the constant turnover of fast fashion and worried about the waste that is being created with all of these garments that are being promoted so heavily. (I’m going to share more about this soon – promise!) So, I created a reel about shifting my focus back to sustainable fashion and I’m making a vow to focus my content on that moving forward.

So here we are now at the top of a brand new year, and I want to encourage you all to be mindful of your fashion choices and take some time to learn a little bit about the industry as a whole.

5 Wardrobe Resolutions For 2025

If style is on your radar in 2025, you’re in the right place! I plan to elevate my wardrobe this year and hope that you will be along for the ride with me. As I plan to make different fashion choices, I’m keeping these 5 wardrobe resolutions in mind as I shop, choose outfits, and make all of my important wardrobe decisions.

1. Spend more time shopping in your closet than shopping online

Whether you are on a budget or have a bank account filled to the brim, I always recommend shopping in your closet before setting foot in the store or online. Back in 2014, I published a blog post about this concept (read it here) and it has become a cornerstone of my fashion philosophy. As I mentioned before, we live in a fast fashion culture and it’s easy to want to add more instead of working with less, but it’s important that we at least make an attempt to start shifting this mindset.

2. If you need to buy new clothes, answer these 3 questions first:

  1. Do I really need this item?
  2. Can I think of at least 3 ways that I will style this item? (Here is an example.)
  3. Is the piece sustainably made and high quality enough to last me 5 years?

3. Each time you shop, perform a quick wardrobe audit.

I promise that I have a full guide coming that will go into detail about how to perform a wardrobe audit, but for now, make sure you are doing this quick version before you bring any new pieces into your wardrobe:

  • Donate 1-2 similar pieces that you don’t wear anymore.
  • Find 1 piece from your wardrobe that you forgot you had (bring it to the front!)
  • Make sure you actually need what you will be adding.

4. Focus on styling vs. wearing your pieces.

I started a series on Instagram that focuses on styling vs. wearing pieces in your wardrobe and I promise to do more of these this year. See below for my first reel, showing how to take a basic sweater dress and stye it, which brings basic pieces to life.

5. Don’t be afraid to be uniquely you!

I spend a huge part of every single day looking on Instagram at what all these amazing fashion influencers are showcasing. And you know what? Not all of it is my style. And not everything that I show you will be your cup of tea either. As we move into this new year, please don’t be afraid to be yourself and dress in ways that are uniquely you. This is what makes fashion fun! And if it’s not fun, you are going to dread opening your closet and getting dressed.
