5 Strategies For Crushing Your New Year Goals List
I shared the above picture over on my Instagram stories when I first got this planner and it just seemed so fitting for everything that I’ve been feeling. I start every week by planning out my to-do lists and strategizing for how the eff I’m going to get everything done with a toddler running around, but I’ve been feeling a bit uninspired lately and down. Maybe it’s the weather or maybe I’m just bored being stuck indoors, but this planner has given me some words of wisdom and inspiration within each page. I’m old fashioned and still think that writing things down helps to make my new year goals list easier to achieve, because it’s tangible.
Anyways, this post isn’t about the planner. And the planner isn’t even part of my strategies for crushing your new year goals list – but I wanted to start with it because it’s helping to guide me down the right path and create some mental organization so I’m able to restore some order back into my life. Now, onto some epic strategies – because we could all use a little guidance for making those goals become a reality, no matter what they are!
Strategy 1: Understand why.
To me, my new year goals list is always a big deal. If you follow along here, I’m always writing new years post about looking back and reflecting and setting goals for the new year. These help us set the tone for what’s to come and helps us to be the best versions of ourselves. So here’s the nitty gritty truth to it all though: you will fail at reaching these goals if you don’t understand why you’ve set them. You have to think about the real reasons behind why you’re making these choices for yourself, it’s so important.
For instance, I wanted and needed to lose weight in 2016 because I had baby weight to lose that resulted in me being out of breath, not fitting into my clothes and feeling really shitty about myself. I really didn’t want to have to buy an entire wardrobe – one size up – so I worked hard towards this goal all year, knowing my why. Dig deep and know your why, as it will help you push through any tough moments to come.
Strategy 2: Buy all the things.
In order to set yourself up for success when conquering your new year goals list, you gotta buy all the things that you need to reach those goals. If you want to start a new business, get yourself organized with a home office or even a small spot in the living room (ahem, like me), that you can claim to work towards whatever your big picture looks like. And again, if losing weight is your goal, check out my gift guide for the wellness enthusiast and treat yourself – you will be so much more motivated to get out there and make shit happen!
Strategy 3: Put a vision on your refrigerator.
I’m not sure about you all, but vision boards just aren’t my thing. I do, however, reach into the refrigerator multiple times a day. List those goals on some pretty paper and put them on the fridge or cut something out from a magazine that inspires you to work towards this goal. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but seeing this vision over and over again will remind you all day through of how important these goals are to you.
Strategy 4: Make your new year goals list public.
Ah social media, this is what you’re there for! Whenever you put this new year goals list of yours out into the universe, it makes it even more tangible than just putting it on paper and keeping it locked up in your favorite planner. Put it out there for all of your friends and family to see and you will find yourself even more energized than ever to crush those goals!
Strategy 5: Take a small step everyday.
Completing these goals isn’t going to happen overnight. It’s just not. So don’t worry yourself expecting it to. If it helps, break down your big goal into smaller monthly or even weekly goals so that you’re working towards the big picture little by little. you will get there if you take small steps everyday. Promise.

I would also love to hear what’s on everyones new year goals list! I know that health is a huge one when it comes to this time of year, and something that’s always on the back of my mind, so that’s definitely on my list this year, as always. But my biggest two goals are to finally move out of the city, which we plan to do this summer and bring a little more adventure in my life. I want my kids to see me more as the fun mom, versus always the working mom. Cheers to a great 2018!

Allison

I don’t observe new years resolutions and fresh starts- but I do feel it is important to make life changes consistently as opportunities appear. I love the tip to put your goals on your fridge.

I’m a big fan of setting goals and making small steps daily to reach those goals. On New Years Eve each year, our family writes out our goals and we all make vision boards…even the littles. We also break down our big goals into small manageable steps. I love your tip to put pics on the fridge! That’s super helpful!

I bought myself a neat planner for Christmas. I’ve always kept shopping and a calendar where it synced to my phone but wanted to try a real planner for some work related goals.

I bought a new planner for the New Year and trying to be more organized. My goal is to get rid of half of the stuff in my house in about 6 months and then organize.
