It’s road trip season! With so many things to do and see, you’re probably planning your families next travel adventure. We spent the weekend road tripping from Austin to San Antonio and back again in our spacious 2018 Chevy Traverse and here’s what you must see and do along the way!
Thanks Chevy for sponsoring this amazing trip!
Things to Do on an Epic Road Trip From Austin to San Antonio Texas
If you guys have been following along on Instagram especially (hello…stories are SO much fun to share), you know that my little fam and I spent last weekend in Texas thanks to our friends at Chevy. You all know that we traveled with them to Disney in October, so arriving at Fair Market in Austin to learn about all the cool features their 2018 vehicles have, we were met by embraces of people who have become old friends and finally got to meet people I’ve gotten to know via email. Seriously guys, Chevy people are really, really great people and it’s just honestly a brand that we have grown to love more and more over the years. And yes…since I know you’re wondering…Chris is still a little sour that I made him upgrade from the Camaro. But, we love our Chevy Trax. #Chevy4Life
The extra space, navigation, double sunroof, wifi and the fact that red juice can be spilled over and over again on the stain-resistant fabric in the 2018 Chevy Traverse that we road tripped in were our biggest takeaways as parents. We’re seriously considering upgrading once we move out of the city as this is the ultimate family vehicle.
This trip was especially exciting for me because back in January I declared 2018 the year of adventure for me. And what’s more adventurous than a road trip through a state you’ve never visited before? Pretty much nothing. I also want to add that Texas has been on our list of top places to visit, so this was an extra special experience and we packed as much as we possibly could during our road trip from Austin to San Antonio in that we possibly could. Here are all the stops that you and your family should really consider making!
Visit the Bluebonnets
Now this is obviously not the perfect Instagram-worthy picture I had in mind, but you gotta roll with the punches when you have kids. April is peak blooming season for Texas’s state flower and they are a must-see!
Stop in Fredericksburg
This quaint, little German town will seriously make you feel like you’re walking back in time. There are so many delicious eateries, places to get ice cream and fudge, live music, museums and more that you could honestly spend the entire day roaming these historic streets. We wandered in and out of local stores, had an authentic German meal for dinner where we listened to a live band play while we ate and checked out a few historical landmarks that we came across while walking down Main Street.
Visit the San Antonio Riverwalk
Hands down, this was our absolute favorite spot! We stayed at Hotel Valencia, which is right on the Riverwalk and had elevator access (ahem: stroller friendly) to these beautiful sites. We honestly spent an entire day here exploring and eating (and admittedly drinking) our way through all that this lush area had to offer.
There are so many restaurants and bars that you will find so many things for the entire family do! We took a very inexpensive boat ride that went from end to end (they even let us fold up our stroller and hop aboard), that included commentary about all the interesting history of the area. It’s just stunning and even Blake sat quietly (for the most part) as we cruised along this 4 foot deep grotto. And a little bit of advice that we learned from the locals: it’s a $500 fine even if you get pushed in!
My last little bit of advice for you if you’re traveling to San Antonio with kids is to take full advantage of the Rainforest Cafe. Yup, you read that correctly. I know it’s not even close to authentic cuisine, but this was the most relaxed meal that Chris and I have had in a LONG time. Our server actually encouraged us to let our kids run around and they did just that. It was pure bliss. We almost went back for dinner.

Friends, I can’t recommend visiting Texas or just incorporating more adventure in your daily lives, like we’re trying to do. It’s not always easy, but I feel like traveling more often has brought us closer together as a family as we’re experiencing so many new things for the first time – together.
Where are you finding new roads?
XOXO,
Allison
