There are so many items on these lengthy back to school supplies lists that parents need to worry about. We’ve checked those physical items off, but today I’m sharing 2 key things that are the most important on our list to start the school year right.

Back to School Supplies: What’s Really Important On Our List

Today marks about a week and a half since Branden has started his new school and we’re so overjoyed by the reaction that he’s had thus far. This is the start of his sixth year of schooling and the first time that he’s ever been happy about waking up and getting on the bus. That has been HUGE for our family. For all of the students back in NYC and everywhere else starting today, I know that there are so many back to school supplies that are on our lists that us mamas are stressing about. And while all of those #2 pencils and notebooks are extremely important and set our children up for success, I challenge you to make sure they have a couple other tools in their back to school toolbox…just hear me out (and no, I’m not encouraging ANOTHER trip to the store).

As I’m sitting and writing, and simultaneously scrolling through Facebook, I see so many back to school supplies being suggested left and right and today, I’m adding a couple more in partnership with my friends at Crispy Green: a healthy mindset and kindness.

And in all honesty, these two life lessons will set your kids up for lifetime success and to me, are the most important things for our kids to remember as they start a new school year.

Why these back to school supplies are so important

Almost every morning, I wake up and run, right after we drop Branden off at the bus stop. We always have Crispy Green handy in the stroller and Branden always has an extra pack to share with whomever he sits with on the bus in the mornings. Kindness starts right there in that moment and is so important for kids to understand and take with them all through life. Whenever he got off the bus on the first day of 5th grade in a new school, and I asked him about making any new friends, he simply replied, “mom…everyone at this school is my friend because they’re all kind. I can walk up to anyone without feeling weird.” Boom. It’s simple things like those moments that make all the difference in a school year.

So yes, even though spreading kindness and living a healthy lifestyle might not be tangible items in your back to school supplies this year, they are, in my opinion, the 2 most important things for kids to carry with them. And these big messages start at home, with us, and are learned through example.

Why Crispy Green is a part of our healthy mindset

Fueling all of our latest adventures in the Cooper home and rounding out all of my lunch packing each day, Crispy Green has become a staple for so many delicious reasons! First and foremost, our kiddos love options. They like to choose their snacks so they feel like they are in control and I get that, so I make sure to have options readily available. Crispy Green comes in 7 different fruits (pineapple, cantaloupe, apple, pear, nectarine, banana, and mango) that are easily transported, have no added sugar, non-GMO and are the perfect snack for all ages.

These wholesome treats are showing our kids that healthy choices don’t need to mean sacrifice. We have these handy with us wherever we go (seriously, stay tuned each week this month to see where Crispy Green goes with us!) and they have become not just the thing my kids eat so they can have a treat, but the treat they choose from the beginning. And that speaks volumes.

Looking for more healthy tips? Mama, I’ve got you covered!

So mamas, I encourage you all to stress a little less this season about the pens and the clothes and the paper and send your kids to school this year with the encouragement to include everyone, be kind to all and eat balanced meals that include our favorite, Crispy Green to power them through the day! Happy new school year from our family to yours!

XOXO,

Allison

  1. Those sound like great snacks. Snacks are one of the biggest part of our back to school prep. My kids get hangry, so I have to make sure they have something to power them through school.
