5 Self Care Strategies For Moms
I literally say “Blake, come here. Where are you?” and “Branden, stop!” about a million times a day. For real. Not really exaggerating. So to say that I’ve needed some self care strategies in my life is seriously an understatement. Things are not easy right now and while I might paint a pretty picture, behind the scenes there are some days where I’m barely holding it together. I’ve always been such an advocate for incorporating daily self care activities into your life and have even opened up about how looking at self care differently has changed my life – but all of that has gone out the window lately. You all know that Chris and I are apart for 6 months right now (but he’s coming this weekend for Branden’s birthday yay!!) and with life changing so much right now, I also needed to switch up my self care strategies, do some soul searching, and really figure out a way to start taking care of myself again. These self care tips will help guide you to figure out what works for you, which at the end of the day is most important of all.
Why self care strategies are so important for moms
So first things first, why are these self care strategies so crucial for your everyday mom life? While I totally recognize that “self care” can be a buzzy word these days, it’s really all about what it means: taking care of yourself. Being a mom doesn’t mean that you stop taking care of yourself, it just doesn’t. And whenever we stop taking care of ourselves, we crumble. This is actually what’s happening to me right now and I’m learning that I need to re-evaluate and figure out new self care strategies so that I can move forward as a less overwhelmed mom.
And in all honesty, this is all part of a healthy, balanced life. There are two components: physical and mental, so self care is just as important. But, you can’t have one without the other. One thing I love is when I have even just a few minutes of alone time to treat myself at the start or end of the day, fueling my body with these new Health Warrior Protein Mug Muffins!
I introduced you all to Health Warrior a few weeks ago here, and they truly have so many wonderful, healthy options for your whole family to love. They will love it for the taste and you will love the peace of mind you get from knowing that you’re feeding your family something amazing.
These new Health Warrior Protein Mug Muffins though, I like to think are just for me (even though I let Branden have at the Chocolate Peanut Butter that’s not pictured before I could get my hands on it!). Each mug contains twice as much protein as sugar, is soy and wheat free, easy to make in the microwave and really, really delicious. So if self care tips are what you’re after, considering giving yourself 10 minutes of quiet at the end of a long day with one of these babies and you will nourish your body and your soul. It’s a win win!
How to develop self care strategies that work for you
I am honestly writing this for you all with so much love in my heart because I know how overwhelming it is when you feel burnt out and spinning in circles every single day. It’s awful. So as I’m going through this re-evaluation period, I wanted to share what’s working for me, so that you can get a plan in place that will work for you!
1. Pinpoint what you need, want, or will simply make you happier on a daily basis.
If you’re anything like me, your emotional and those emotions run deep. It happens and especially around that time of the month, I kinda lose it if those needs aren’t being met (which happened to me….yesterday). So I sat and listed out a few things that needed to change in order for me to be happier and take care of myself and working on making those things more of a priority.
2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when necessary.
This is my biggest struggle because I think a part of me just wants to be viewed as Super Mom, so I just take on everything that I possibly can myself. And you know what? That won’t fly with your self care plan. Stop and ask for help when you need it.
3. Designate a quiet time every single day.
This is the one thing that I can actually give myself a pat on the back for these days. Every night at 9pm I got up to bed (Blake goes to sleep at 7:30 and Branden comes upstairs with me at 9) and I have my moment to just be quiet and do the things that I need to do for myself and to be prepared for the next day. This is when essential oils are used, to-do lists are written and reading is done. It’s something I look forward to each day.
4. Step away from the phone.
I know, easier said than done, especially when you work in social media like me. But it’s crucial for your self care strategies to turn that thing off, step away from the digital world for a bit and live presently in the real world. Try a digital detox for 20 minutes a day!
5. Maintain a good attitude.
We all hold the power within us to choose joy. Some days it’s harder and believe me, my husband gets an earful almost every single day (because mommin is tough stuff!), but after my hard day yesterday, I was heart set on making today a better day. I got up, ran, diffiser some happy joy oils and even though Blake refused to nap for the first time ever, I just kept positive and enjoyed those extra moments of chaos.

I love all these tips. Some of them I practice, some I need a little improvement on. The one thing I know for sure is that we moms usually DON’T take good enough care of ourselves.

Great tips. Self-care is so important. We can’t be good mamas if we don’t’ take care of ourselves first.
