5 Things to Remember When You Don’t Feel Like Working Out
Here’s my little truth bomb for the day: I don’t always feel like working out. It’s a HUGE part of my life and an incredibly important part of my life, however, I don’t always feel like getting up and making it happen. We’re all human. We have good days and bad days. And I know that I’m not the only one feeling overwhelmed sometimes trying to fit a workout in AND have the mental capacity to push through when I would rather sit and eat keto chocolate chip cookies.
So whenever you wake up and have a scheduled workout ahead of you and find yourself ready to hit the couch instead, here’s what you need to remind yourself.
1. You are doing this for yourself.
As much as I would love to say that I’m really good about taking breaks all the time, getting monthly hair cuts and just really carving out time for myself – it doesn’t always work out as planned. That’s life and we have to roll with the punches. But working out? That’s just for me. Because I fit my workouts in with Blake either in the jogging stroller or playing on her tablet, it’s something that I know I will get to do regardless of any other factors. Unless there is an emergency, of course. The same goes for you. This workout is for you and you only. Take things one day at a time and get up and make it happen – even on your laziest feeling day – because this is all about you, and you don’t want to let yourself down.
2. You are setting an example.
Whenever people ask me my “why” for working out, I always say it’s because I want to be able to run after my grand kids the same way I chase after Branden and Blake. I realize that whenever I’m able to stick to a pretty strict workout routine and they see me doing that, I’m setting the best example for them. It shows them just how important being healthy is, but it also shows them how important it is to stick with things, reach their goals and never giving up. There are hidden lessons in everything we do as parents.
3. You will feel like a million bucks when you’re done.
When all else fails, this is my key motivator. There is just nothing that feels quite an amazing as finishing up a kick ass workout when you kinda didn’t feel like doing it from the beginning. Now you get to feel like a badass and go take a hot shower.
4. You have created a healthy habit.
We tend to think of the word “habit” with negative connotation. Smoking. Drinking. The list goes on and on. But there are healthy habits, too – many of them. And working out regularly is one of those good ones that should make you feel super proud of yourself.
5. You are a mom and can do anything you put your mind to.
Girrrrrrl. You do more in most days than the CEO of most companies. So why not add one more thing to your daily list? Seriously though, you body has been through so much, you have conquered exhaustion and toddler tantrums and tween problems and everything in between. You are a rockstar.
