10 Things Productive Moms Do Before 10am
I get that it’s impossible not to have lazy days. I have have them, too. For me, I notice that whenever I have a couple lazy days in a row, they end up turning into a long string of lazy days and then it’s hard to get myself back on track. Sound familiar? I think it happens to all of us. But whenever we’re on a roll, we’re unstoppable. I try to be as productive as I can, especially in the morning, because you never really know what the rest of the day holds – especially as a mom. Mornings are my time to pack as much punch to my schedule as possible, and then the rest of the day can unfold however it needs to. I actually joke all the time that I cram an 8 hour work day into my mornings. And it all happens before 10am!
I also want to note that this doesn’t just apply to work at home moms, these 10 things can be applied to whatever it is your need to push yourself to do to get into a productive routine. And these can be done in no particular order, I just make sure that they are done!
1. Write a to-do list for the day – probably while you’re drinking coffee.
I try to do this first thing in the morning after I wake up so that while I’m getting those first sweet sips of coffee, I’m being productive and can have a clear plan in my mind for what I need to get done.
2. Eat something healthy.
In the morning, it’s important to me to have some healthy eats handy that require little to no preparation. And the thing is: not all bars are treated equal. This is why I always have Health Warrior Chia Seed Bars handy because of their healthy boost of energy, minimal sugar, are plant-based proteins. Our whole family eats them, and they often joke that I have them with me everywhere because they can be found in my jogging stroller and purse without fail!
3. Master multitasking.
We’re getting ready to move into a much bigger space and to be honest the thought overwhelms me a little bit whenever it comes to keeping it clean. In addition to Branden’s regular chores and Blake keeping her toys organized, I’ve made sure to get into the headspace of doing at least one big chore in the morning, each day. This keeps me on top of things, not feeling like a slob, and I’m able to move easier throughout my day knowing that I got something done. Beyond that, I’ve learned to become the master of multitasking and am able to get a few smaller household things done right away.
4. Cuddle with your little ones.
With Blake especially, she acts out if I’m not giving her enough attention. It’s all a game of balance. If I give her some attention in the morning (or even have her help me clean!) – something that is just us without any distractions, she’s much more easygoing about watching a movie or playing on her Kindle so that I can get things done during the day, uninterrupted.
5. Start tackling those big items on the to-do list.
I try to get the things that I’m dreading the most done first. I’m trying to be better about schedule blocking, but being a mom means that you don’t always know exactly what the day will bring, so I have to have some wiggle room.
6. Plan out dinner.
I loathe dealing with the “what’s for dinner?” question that falls on my shoulders most days. I know that if I figure it out first thing in the morning, set whatever I need out on the counter (i.e. take frozen meat out or put out what I need in my crock pot), I’m able to relax a bit. And most of the time, if we’re planning on getting takeout, I plan that out right from the start, too.
7. Practice some self-love affirmations.
I think about self-love affirmation every morning because it gives me a little boost and the confidence to believe in myself and what I’m capable of doing each day. Try these!
8. Get yourself dressed for the day.
More often than not, I get dressed for the day after I work out, which comes a little bit later in the morning, but I’ve started creating more of a routine in the morning when it comes to getting my face washed and putting on clothes that I wouldn’t be embarrassed to be seen in. On days I’m not working out though, I’ve been trying to get ready for the day earlier and it’s been a game-changer in my productivity because I just feel better.
9. Ask for help if you need to.
Whether you need help from the kids, your parter, a babysitting, or even to arrange a kid swap with a local mom – there are some days where you need 100% distraction-free focus to be productive and there isn’t anything wrong with that.
10. Do some sort of physical activity.
Even if it’s just 10 minutes of stretching, you will feel incredible knowing that you did something great for your body early on in the day. For me, this typically comes from at the 10am mark and then I jump in the shower afterwards.

And as a little bit of an added bonus here: I try really hard to do a quick 5 minute cleanup each night before I go to sleep so that *everything* is in it’s place whenever I wake up in the morning. There’s nothing worse than waking up ready to take on the day and then feeling like there are chores that need doing first.
XOXO,
Allison
