5 “Mom Strategies” That Get Me Through the Day
You guys all know how I thrive whenever I’m following a daily routine and feel pretty out of whack whenever that gets thrown off. While I do my very best to accept that things will be different each day, as we all know, there are just some things we absolutely have to get accomplished no matter what. Yes, things like laundry and dishes can mostly wait (until they pile up way too high, of course), but we have so much to juggle each day that often can’t wait. For me, that’s writing and creating the content that I do on the blog and balancing that with being present for my families needs.
My no fail mom strategies
While everyday is different whenever you are a mom, whether you work or not, there are some things that I’ve learned over the years that help me to better make it through the day without pulling my hair out. (I know you’ve had these days, too!).
1. Wake up before the kids do.
I would NEVER get anything done if I did not wake up before the kids do. This is a fact for me. Some days it might only be enough time to make coffee and let the dog outside, while others I set the alarm for more than an hour before I know the little munchkins will rise. I started doing this over the summer and it has truly been a game changer for me.
2. Stay hydrated.
You know how sometimes people get “hangry?” Staying hydrated is pretty much the same thing. Our bodies are mostly water and function the best whenever we are keeping ourselves hydrated. You will undoubtedly experience mom burnout if you aren’t getting enough water each day and it will take a toll on your productivity, mood, energy levels and more.
I’ve shared in the past how our country (yes, the United States) is experiencing a water crisis. This is why we have the Zerowater pitcher in our refrigerator at all times for our family to get healthy, clean water from. What makes these filters different? Theres a lot! They remove more solids through their 5-stage filtration system than any other pour-through filter on the market. This means that you will get a 000 (hence the name!) reading whenever you test the water, showing that there are zero dissolved solids in your drinking water. (The kids love to constantly test this, too!) Because of this, it tastes SO much better than anything else.
And Zerowater isn’t just for home use, mama! Check out my post here about how you can always have these filters handy while on the go!
3. Have the kids work on a project at the same time as yo do.
I never thought that Blake would sit still…like ever. Then, my mom got her a decorate your own jewelry box craft for her birthday and she literally sat for 2 hours to create her masterpiece. So I bet you can guess what we’ve stocked up on, right? Sitting the kiddos down and giving them an assignment of sorts to complete while you’re doing something (even having 20 minutes of down time!), will help you get through the day.
4. Take advantage of bath time.
As silly as this sounds, with Blake being very active, I’ve learned that bath time is truly a treasured time during the day. Even if it’s not necessarily bath day, I’ll let her play in the water, while I sit in the bathroom and catch up on things I can do on my phone – uninterrupted. During this time I will upload videos, schedule social media, catch up on texts I thought I responded to a week ago, etc. When in doubt, give them a tubby!
5. Get as much done during your peak energy hours.
I can’t recommend this enough, mama. You know yourself better than anyone, so if night is your special time, get your things done then, if not do it whenever you know you’ll have those energy bursts. There is nothing worse than trying to get things accomplished during a time of day where you are just done. Morning is my “special” time where I run around the house like a chicken with my head cut off and then slow down around 3pm. Pack in as much punch during those times of day and you will thank yourself later.
