Ok you might be laughing at the title a little bit thinking “well duh…double cleansing means cleansing twice.” Yes, that is true. However there is quite a bit more to this whole double cleansing method than meets the eye. I thought it was silly, too, whenever I first heard about people doing it. Honestly, it sounded like a waste of time and money spent on perfectly good cleanser. But the more that I looked into it and researched the benefits of double cleansing, my eyes were pretty open.

What is Double Cleansing?
Double cleansing is a huge part of many K-beauty skincare routines, so if you follow any of those than you are probably familiar, if not, then this is probably new information for you. It’s a process of cleansing your skin – only done at the end of the day – to really clean off any impurities and makeup from the day. Shari Marchbein, a dermatologist in New York City, tells Allure, “It is extremely important to remove makeup, dirt, and pollutants that have accumulated on your skin during the day, before heading to bed. Sleeping with makeup on or forgetting to rinse your face before bed is a big no-no as it can cause major acne breakouts including painful cysts.”
Yup, you don’t want any of that nonsense happening to your skin. Who has time to deal with it? Not me!
The two-step procedure starts by first cleansing with micellar water or an oil cleanser, which essentially takes care of the things sitting on the top of your skin like makeup and dirt from the day. The second wash it to get deeper into your pores. For this step you want to still use a gentle cleanser (more on that below), but choose something that will give you a little bit of a lather.

The Benefits of Double Cleansing
There are two main takeaways here that prove that the benefits of double cleansing are really important – especially for women who are getting older and are spending more time focusing on a skincare routine that helps prevent aging (as best we can!). First, double cleansing provides you with just an all around amazing, deep down clean. The second thing to remember is that it better preps your face for all of those amazing night time products that we have spent so much money on to actually do that they are supposed to do because they can now penetrate the skin deep down. It’s a win, win situation.
When to double cleanse
Ok so here is the general rule of thumb whenever choosing if double cleansing is right for you. If your skin is acne prone or you tend to have oily skin by noon, the double cleanse is a great choice for you. If you’re not oily until the end of the day or if your skin is more of the dry side, double cleansing probably isn’t necessary for you – except on days where you are wearing more makeup than usual.

Then, for the deeper, yet still gentle cleanser, I recommend choosing something from our nourishing line. This was created for more sensitive skin, to help keep is calm and always nourished.
