Sore Muscle Relief: Bath Salts for Muscle Pain (Recipe)

I think at some point in our lives we are all craving a little sore muscle relief. Keep scrolling for my oh so simple, muscle relief soak recipe, but first, I want to touch on why this works so well for muscle relief.

Why Use Bath Salts for Muscle Pain Relief?

One of my absolute favorite household staples is Epsom salts because they do a lot of wonderful things. While you can buy different versions that are infused with essential oils and herbs, the core of the Epsom salts is that they help to relieve sore muscle relief and fight inflammation.

Whenever the salts are combined with your warm bath water, it breaks down into magnesium and sulfate. Web MD says, “The theory is that when you soak in an Epsom salt bath, these get into your body through your skin. That hasn’t been proven, but just soaking in warm water can help relax muscles and loosen stiff joints.”

Because of the healing properties, they have actually been used for hundreds of thousands of years.

A warm bath alone can do wonders for tight, tired muscles. But when you add Epsom salts and essential oils, you’re creating a powerful mix that works to relax the body and ease discomfort naturally.

Here’s why bath salts work for muscle pain relief:

  • Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate): Draws out toxins, reduces inflammation, and improves circulation

  • Sea Salt or Pink Himalayan Salt: Adds trace minerals and further supports detoxification

  • Baking Soda: Soothes the skin and boosts the effectiveness of the salts

  • Essential Oils: Add aromatic and therapeutic benefits (more on that below!)

Using bath salts for muscle pain offers a moment of calm, self-care, and healing that every mom deserves—and it takes just minutes to prepare.

Essential Oils That Help With Muscle Pain

The right essential oils can enhance the soothing effects of your bath soak. Here are my favorites for muscle pain relief:

  • Lavender: Naturally calming and anti-inflammatory

  • Peppermint: Cooling and invigorating—great for sore spots

  • Eucalyptus: Relieves aches, clears the mind, and opens the breath

  • Chamomile: Calms muscle spasms and soothes tension

You can use one or mix a few, depending on your preference and the oils you have on hand.

When you are done, transfer to a mason jar and you will have enough for 3, 1 cup uses.
