I recently ran my first official 5k this past weekend, virtually, to support Wounded Warrior Project and I encourage you to get your whole family involved, too!
This post is made possible with support from the Wounded Warrior Project. All opinions are my own.
Oliver and I have logged many, MANY miles together. He is my running buddy through and through. We’ve hit many different running milestones together and I swear he holds me accountable whenever he senses my pace getting slower. While I do have big aspirations of at least running a half marathon during my lifetime, we got to run a very special 5k together this past weekend that holds a very special place in my heart.
We ran the Carry Forward 5K with Wounded Warrior Project and every step towards running those 3.1 miles was truly meaningful to me.
You all know by this point that I am an Army wife. We’ve been part of our country’s amazing military since before Chris and I got married and being an Army wife is what I know. I also have two grandfathers who, like my husband, were extremely brave and joined the Army, too. These are the people who I carried for, the brave men and women who risk their lives so that we have freedom every single day.
It takes a lot to make a sacrifice like that and it’s a whole-hearted decision that impacts their entire life moving forward. We all owe the men and women in the military so much.
I feel incredibly honored to have hit the pavement and ran this “race” as a tribute to all the men and women who bravely serve our country. It was incredibly motivating and empowering to be a part of something so important.
Wounded Warrior Project helps veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound while serving in the military on or after September 11, 2001. It is an incredibly powerful organization that really more like a community and every service they provide is completely free of cost to the service member and their family.
