We all know that moms are pretty much the chief medical officers with our immediate family and that there’s a lot to consider with this duty. Today I’m sharing five important decisions to make that will help simplify the process this fall.

Does anyone else feel like there are extra steps to everything right now? (Thanks COVID….) Managing the day-to-day shuffle of being a mom amid the coronavirus has put us all in a state of overwhelm.
Now that we are getting back into the groove of school, whether you are doing virtual school or have sent your kids back to in-person school, it feels like we can check that transition off of our never-ending lists. Phew, right? But we of course, now, have to deal with keeping our families healthy as the seasons change, so that they can actually get up and do their schoolwork.
Being moms makes us the chief medical officers of our families – making our family’s doctor appointments, getting everyone to the appointments, and following through whenever anyone is feeling under the weather.

Since you know that I’m all about simplifying things as much as possible, I wanted to narrow things down for you today.
5 Decisions Moms Should Make For Their Family’s Health This Fall
With November being American Diabetes Month, it’s more an important reminder to take control of your health and the health of your loved ones. I’m so excited to be working again with VSP Vision Care to share the absolute easiest and non-invasive way to keep your family healthy not just this fall, but all year long. I also mixed in some of my own, time-saving, life – simplifying health tips, too.
1. Get your family to the eye doctor.
If you haven’t read my post about things you probably didn’t know your eye doctor could diagnose, I recommend giving it a read because there’s a lot that was news to me! Getting your family to the eye doctor annually is one of the most non-invasive ways to detect signs of many serious conditions, everything from diabetes to autoimmune diseases to certain types of cancer. Yes, for real!
Scheduling annual eye exams can literally save lives.
In addition to checking your family’s vision, eye doctors can look at the blood vessels in the back of the eyes to reveal early signs of diabetes up to seven years before a person shows symptoms. This allows you to make healthy lifestyle changes before suffering any permanent damage.

2. Make flu shots a family affair.
Flu shots are a pain, but they keep us healthy. There is nothing worse than driving all over the place to get the kids and the adults their flu shots at different times and different places. Who has time for that? I learned my lesson in the past and within the past couple of years, we visit our local grocery store pharmacy and just get it all done, at one time, altogether.
3. Get moving!
I know that between school and the kid’s regular activities, you don’t want to have to plan one more thing, but hear me out. Keeping everyone active is a sure thing whenever it comes to avoiding getting sick. And to be honest, it’s so easy to do with fall activities being outdoors. Try apple picking, pumpkin picking, horseback riding – the options are endless. Just keep moving!
4. Cook with immune system boosting foods.
Adding fruits and veggies to your family’s diet is a great, natural way to boost your immune system this fall. And if you want to spice things up, adding certain spices to your foods is a wonderful way to help you and your family fight off illness year-round.
5. Schedule down time.
Yup, you read that correctly. With our lives being as busy as we are, we sometimes need to work down time into our schedules. For us, this typically comes in the form of a family movie night and means dinner and treats in the living room while we watch something appropriate for everyone and just relax. This gives your body time to rest, recover, and fight off anything that might be thrown its way.
