Ever get used to a new routine, only to have it thrown off course? I’ve been thrown a curveball and here’s my strategies for managing change.

For many of us, January is a time for goal setting, cleaning, and doing things that make us feel refreshed and renewed. Many of these goals have to do with our health and I’m all for shifting prorities and making changes that push us in healthier ways. However, when you’re a parent, you also can probably agree that January can be a time for sick kiddos, missed school days, trips to the doctor and more! It just is what it is, and this year is no different.
I always set my intentions for the year in January, but this year, this month is totally kicking my butt.
Instead of being on top of my game, each day has been different and I’m totally in rolling with the punches mode. Anyone else? I feel like what’s currently happening in our household can only be described as organized chaos, so I wanted to share a few strategies with you, in partnership with my friends at Ameo Life for navigating your day to day when curveballs are through your way.
But first, here’s what happened:
January started smoothly. I had (and still have!) a positive outlook on my health goals and started doing Beachbody’s 21 Day Fix Extreme, which is the perfect, full body 30 minute daily workout for me. I was about 12 days in and after the kids both being in and out of school for weeks due to sickness or closures due to Covid, I finally caught the bug.
It hit me so hard on a chilly Monday night and I took a test to confirm that indeed, it was my turn to have Covid. Thankfully, Chris was off for a few days to take care of me. Branden had to quarantine for 5 days for school and Blake for almost 2 weeks, which was extra tough. I’ve still managed to work in between sleeping, but each day has been completely different.
When Life Throws You Curveballs: Strategies for Managing Change
I’m a thrive on routine kinda girl, so here’s what I’ve learned over the past couple of weeks that I can pass onto you.
1. Control what you can, let go of what you can’t
I struggle with this one, so I’m only assuming that I’m not the only one. I want to be able to have control over everything becuase with control you can also manage the outcome. But life just doesn’t work this way.
Getting sick, for instance, is out of my control, so I had to just let it go. What I could control in the scenario was my response, how I was able to manage my time while being sick, etc. It’s not easy, but sometimes you have no choice but to roll with the punches.
2. Health first
I know it seems redundant because we always hear that we have to take care of ourselves, but it couldn’t be more true or more important. Knowing that January tends to be the time of year when most people get sick, I started taking a daily multivitamin from AmeoLife back in Decemeber called their Chelated Multivitamin.
This is a daily multivitamin that I take everyday after lunch since that’s typically the first time of day when I have food in my stomach. it is comprised of 18 different essential vitamins and minerals. Their proprietary formula contains chelated minerals and methylated folate for added bioavailability, and is rich in the natural antioxidants Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Alpha Lipoic Acid.
What makes AmeoLife’s multivitamin different?
So. Many. Things.
The main takeaway: wealways hear about absorption when it comes to vitamins. Most of the vitamins on the market are made with the cheapest vitamins and minerals and aren’t able to be absorbed by the body. Why invest in vitamins that don’t do aynthing, right? Ameo Life includes the most active form of Vitamin B9 (folate) to help the highest number of people, including those with the MTHFR mutation. By taking a methylfolate supplement instead of cheaper folic acid, you are providing the body with active folate it can use right away.
Ameo Life also incorporates chelated minerals into their formulation, which helps overcome the challenges with mineral absorption. Chelation is a process that binds minerals to an organic or amino acid, making them more bioavailable to the body.
3. Figure out a way to manage your stress
Sometimes this might be a hot bath, working out, watching tv….whatever works for you! Just make sure you are doing something to avoid overwhelm when things aren’t going your way.
4. Give yourself 2 non-negotiables a day
I know that there are certain tasks each day that I absolutely have to get done, and others that aren’t as pressing. Whenever I’m going through chaotic moments in life, as long as I get these couple of tasks done each day, I can give myself a pat on the back and move forward.
5. Set a date
If you are like me and absolutely have to know that things will return to your normal routine for your sanity, take a look at your calendar and figure when that will be. For me, I knew a date when Blake would be back to school, which was weeks out, so I can only assume that I would start to feel better then, too. Having that date on the calendar made everything more managable becuase i had an end date for the chaos. I know this doesn’t always work, but when it does, it truly helps.
How do you cope with change?
XOXO,
Allison
