After years of working from home, I made the leap back into full-time work outside the house. In this heartfelt post, I’m sharing the raw truth about my career pivot, how it’s reshaping my identity as a mom, and what this new chapter really looks like.
I never thought I would write these words.
For years, I’ve built a career around working from home while raising my kids. I created Project Motherhood in the thick of early motherhood because I needed a space to process what I was experiencing, and connect with other women navigating the same wild and beautiful mess. That decision led to a decade-plus career in content creation, digital marketing, and building my own little corner of the internet. I’ve worn a lot of hats since then — founder, freelancer, digital strategist, marketing director, influencer, and most importantly, mom.
And for a long time, that balance worked. I felt in control of my time. I was able to say yes to the things that mattered, and I built a life that felt aligned with my family’s needs.
But then, something shifted.

Last year, I was working a demanding corporate job from home, clocking 60+ hours a week. I was exhausted. I cried more days than I care to admit. I missed out on the little things — summer pool days, slow mornings, spontaneous adventures with my kids. I was working around the clock but missing the life I had worked so hard to create.
When summer ended, it felt like I had blinked and missed the entire thing.
So I made a change.
I left that job and took a breath. I slowed down. I let myself figure out what actually felt good again — and what didn’t. I asked myself what kind of life I wanted for my family, and for myself. And slowly, the answer became clear.
It was time to go back to work — but on my own terms.
Last week, I started a new job outside of the home. It is a local, mom-friendly, slower-paced role that gives me structure and allows me to show up for my family in the ways that matter most. It may sound counterintuitive, but stepping back into a traditional workplace feels like the most radical form of self-care I could give myself right now. I’m not chasing hustle. I’m not trying to prove anything. I’m building something sustainable — and it feels really, really good.
Check out the post I shared on Instagram to announce the change:
This new season means a lot of change, and I’ll be sharing that journey here. It means packing lunches and commuting and picking outfits that aren’t athleisure. It means a shift in how I work, how I create content, and how I spend my time. But what hasn’t changed is my love for this space and this community.
If anything, it’s stronger than ever.
Now that I’m getting dressed up for work each day, I’ll be sharing my daily looks on social media and linking everything I can to help make your mornings easier, too. If you’re not already following along, make sure to check out my Amazon Shop and LTK page for my updated outfits and back-to-school finds.
Also — a little housekeeping before I go.
Each month, I host a $100 shopping giveaway for my email subscribers, and this month’s is live now. To enter, all you need to do is open the latest email and answer a simple question. If you’re not already on my list, sign up here to join in. I’ll be sharing more personal updates, reader questions, and exclusive shopping links there each week.
Motherhood is made up of many chapters. Some are slow and stretchy. Others are fast and full. This one feels fresh and grounded and honest. I’m walking into it with open hands and a full heart.
Thanks for being here.
XO,
Allison
