lights, camera, action 2

Since Project Motherhood was first “born,” our amazing editor, Deborah, has been telling me that I need to do a personal photo shoot. Her reasoning was that it boosted confidence, was fun, and it’s always great to have some flawless pictures of yourself hanging around for whenever you need them. Me, not really loving the thought of being in front of the camera, I’m always the one making sure all our memories are being captured, behind the camera. So whenever I contemplated the thought of a photo shoot, and I quickly brushed it aside.

Fast-forward to almost two years later, and Project Motherhood has gone places that I have only dreamt of. I finally realized that, for branding purposes and a constant need of head shots for freelancing projects, the curiosity of finally being in front of the camera was starting to stir inside me. The need was definitely there, so I finally decided that it was I who needed to have a “lights, camera, action!” moment in my life.

Once I got the idea in my head of exactly what I wanted to get out of this photo shoot, I knew that I needed to call our dear friend and outstanding photographer, Damany Campbell. I knew that he could get the job done for a few main reasons:

  1. Obviously his photography skills…duh!
  2. He has such a fun personality that he was able to break me out of my self-conscious shell WITHOUT me doing some pre-photo shoot shots. Score!
  3. He wasn’t afraid to say things to people like “Excuse me Miss, (to a girl enjoying her lunch break at the Columbus Circle fountain) I know that you are really deep in thought, but we really need to get this shot. Could you scoot about 3 feet that way?” Yup, a pushy, outgoing photographer is necessary for a successful photo shoot!

We did a session in Central Park near the Jacqueline Onassis Reservoir and another in Columbus Circle, two of my favorite places in the city! We are also meeting up again next weekend at the Brooklyn Bridge to get in some family shots with my handsome boys!

Damany will meet you pretty much where ever in the city (Just no creepy back alleys, ok?  Because he will be really mad I used the words “where ever.”). With Damany and his willingness to get out there with you at your favorite New York City places, whether indoors or out, your memories can be professionally captured in a meaningful way for you.

After all my resistance, I admit I had such a great experience with my photo shoot! And I am even happier with the way the pictures turned out. (Thanks in part to Damany’s amazing Photo Shop skills!) Check out this sneak peak:
