Dear Diary,
On Friday, December 6th, 2013, I hosted my first ever Project Motherhood event! It was held at the fabulous Art Studio NY, on the Upper West Side, with an amazing group of bloggers and lead by an amazing team of artistic individuals that pulled out every ounce of creativity inside of us! It was so amazing and special to me for so many reasons, which I am going to share with you all.
First, I was so happy about everyone who came to the event. I have truly met an awesome group of bloggers who have quickly become some of my dearest friends. The wonderful photographer for the event, Damany, owner of Kanji Photography, is my husband’s best friend from high school who is so much more than a friend to The Coopers, but also true family. His photographs in this post speak LOUDLY for themselves. In addition, my lovely editor, Deborah, came all the way in from Pittsburgh to be there to show her support! Last, but certainly NOT least, my wonderful husband was able to stay for the whole event and stay by my side during this monumental moment. Now, we have our beautiful art positioned side by side in our apartment to remind us about our creative day together!
Now back to the event recap!
While preparing for this event with The Art Studio NY owner, Rebecca Schweiger, I had the pleasure of hearing how the studio got started–ten years ago in her apartment! So, walking into the studio on Friday to see how the business has blossomed for her was really magnificent! The Art Studio NY is a wonderfully creative environment for children and adults alike. They do a mixture of drop-in classes as well as regular weekly classes, plus offer corporate events, birthday parties, and even surprise wedding proposals! You name it, they are able to work with you to make sure that you get the most out of their creative environment.
The class that the Mamas & Mimosas (and some Papas, too!) crew participated is called art + SOUL Express: Paint it! These are two hour long drop-in classes, so you can pop into the studio whenever you feel that “creative itch” and take part in this outstanding program. First, you get to pick your background, which is a choice between canvas, t-shirt, tote bags, baseball caps, blank books (for book making), jewelry box/treasure chest, and more! Then, you have the the opportunity to pattern your background however you would like, having many different stencils to choose from. Helpfully, you receive a crash course in paint mixing and adjusting color mixtures to exactly the shade you wish, which for my group was a major hint as to how much fun we were about to have! Last, you get to paint it! Of course, no experience is necessary, as they will coach you through the whole process.
Our group had a wide variety of beginners to more advanced, but it didn’t matter because every piece turned out unique and beautiful. Rebecca and her staff were around to help us all with our creative process and answer any questions, and always with a light-hearted and encouraging approach. The endless array of paintings made by other students covering every inch of the walls helped to motivate as well! And the Mimosas didn’t interfere, AT ALL!
Overall, we ALL had such an amazing experience and are still talking about it! My husband and I are already planning to take Branden to a drop-in class after the holiday, PLUS a date night class for the two of us. It’s amazing how therapeutic painting can be and how doing it just once makes you yearn to do it even more.
I couldn’t have asked for a better event on Friday, and can wholeheartedly say that it was a success! If you are interested in seeing more of the blogger images and tweets from during the event, search using the hashtag: #theartstudiony

Allison and Rebecca, thanks so much to both of you! It simply couldn’t have been more fun.
(btw – I am running out to buy some acrylic pants to put some finishing touches on my project from art+SOUL. I suddenly have this burning desire to paint!)
