Last week, my office for the day got to be the amazing Listerine Lab in New Jersey where I not only got to go behind the scenes and learn so many important and interesting things about LISTERINE® Antiseptic Mouthwash, but was faced with the question: what makes me bold? I’m not going to lie – I had a really tough time thinking about an answer because I kinda classify myself as being more on the quiet side. But the more I thought about it, the more clearer the answer became.
First and foremost, after doing a great deal of research, LISTERINE® found that their users all have something in common that sets them apart from people who aren’t using these products: they are bold. LISTERINE® users are more likely to do things like eat spicy foods, plan a trip on a whim, and quit their job to follow their dreams.
As a blogger, there are definitely moments where we must step outside our comfort zones and truly be bold, as with any other job. But with blogging, I literally stepped away from a corporate position – steady paycheck and all – to pursue the dream of starting my own business and freelance writing, doing something that I really love. It hasn’t been easy, and truth be told, there have been more difficult days than great ones. But, whenever those great days hit, it’s the best feeling in the whole world. I have a career that gives me flexibility and the the ability to be at home with my kids. I’d say that’s pretty bold.
We have always been a “swishing” family because I struggled with there not being fluoride in the water when I was growing up and dealt with the repercussions as an adult. I’m back on track now, but I don’t want my family to ever go through a root canal that could have been prevented! (Which is why we are now using the LISTERINE® Total Care that had fluoride in it – something I never realized before.) I’m making sure to swish twice a day now, for the full 30 seconds and am making sure that Branden does too, since he is old enough to swish himself. (They recommend ages 6 and up and you younger kids they have a special rinse just for them!)
Upon arrival (and a very BOLD lunch), we got to experience a Q&A session with renowned dentist, Dr. Lee Gause. As crazy as it sounds, he shared with us that we are “experiencing a dental crisis in the United States.” Those words are pretty scary, huh? But it’s the truth! He went on to share how 50% of adults have gingivitis at some point in their life, which can eventually lead to periodontal disease if not taken care of.
Overall, brushing only gets rid of 25% off the food and build up that gets stuck in our teeth on a daily basis. So to combat any signs of gingivitis, we need to make sure that we are brushing, flossing, and swishing with LISTERINE® twice a day.
We then got to tour the actual lab with principal scientist, Tara Fourre, who walked us through everything that happens behind the scenes. It was really awesome to see the work that’s done each day to test all of the claims that each product prints on their labels – there is no messing around with this company!
It was a great day where in addition to learning really valuable information to help my family, I was able to step out of my daily routine, meet new people, and dare I say be bold? I have to say that it was super refreshing to mix things up and have a little fun! How are you bold?
Fashionably Yours,
Allison

We love visiting the labs of companies to see what they’re up to. We went to the Dr. Pepper/Snapple lab once and saw some really cool (non-released) things!

I can totally relate to your bold moment. I left teaching when I became pregnant with my daughter. I wanted to stay at home to be with her so I started to blog. I guess that does make us pretty bold 🙂 It was nice meeting you at the Listerine Lab. I learned so much and definitely changed up my oral care routine.

What a cool experience! I love to see the inner workings of companies. I love Listerine too, it’s the only kind of mouth wash we use.

I am a big Listerine fan. I love the blue one. The orange is the only one my oldest will use at all.
