The Full Body Detox Guide (For Busy Moms Who Need a Reset)
There are always certain points during the year where I feel like I need a little body detox and some self reflection, too. For me, it doesn’t really have anything to do with the everyday chaos of motherhood, though that adds to it, but is more of a self care type thing that I have honestly been doing since high school. I always feel like I need a body detox, a change, or a mindset shift at the start of the new year, the summer, and always, always during back to school. In fact, back to school has always felt like a new year to me. All the newness can be overwhelming – in a good way though.
So as Branden starts a new school year, Blake starts with a new babysitter in a few weeks and I go after some new goals of my own, I thought this was the perfect time to talk about some of my full body detox tactics.
First, what is a body detox?
I think (know) that both me and every doctor ever can agree that our bodies naturally detox on their own. So whenever brands are advertising that they have a detox system and what not, it’s not something you should spend your hard earned dollars on. To me, a body detox is cleansing and reseting the body, mind and spirit connection so that you feel whole. I do this during periods of time where I might feel unhealthy, skipped way too many workouts or just simply feel disconnected with myself. I’m not pitching you a system that you’re going to eat or drink (or not eat) on a daily basis and rid your body of toxins while starving yourself. That is not a body detox and not what you will find here. This post will show you simple, practical ways to just get back on track. Sometimes, that all we really need in this world.
The goal of a body detox: to feel renewed and reconnected with yourself.
How to do a full body detox
Step one: purge everything pre-packed and sugar filled from your pantry and all the toxic beauty products in your bathroom.
Just kidding!
Body
I told you: this is going to be simple. However I do want you to take this time to focus on your health first. Whether you are focusing on your body detox for one day or more, it’s always important to pay attention to what we’re putting into our bodies. And this is also a good time to think about the things that we’ve been using to fuel ourselves that our less than healthy.
Don’t starve yourself.
Don’t be hard on yourself.
Don’t cut crazy amounts of calories.
I want you to take a few days though to just eat whole foods. Cut out the crap. The extra carbs. The loads of sugar (read your labels!) and drink extra water. Try my simple morning detox drink recipe that is a great, healthy way to start your day alongside your favorite cup of coffee or tea.

Like I mentioned before, your body knows how to detox and get rid of all the bad stuff on it’s own. However, this is your time to make a change in what you’re feeding it to begin with. Listen to what your body needs and don’t forget to move! Here’s how I fit in a daily workout – for real!
Skin
Whenever I’m spending time detoxing, I carve out a few days where I know I won’t be running out of the house, so I don’t feel compelled to put makeup on. Don’t get me wrong, I love makeup, and know that it also does wonderful things to protect your skin as well as make you look pretty. But sometimes, I just need a break. Take these few days to go without makeup. Let your skin breathe. Use this amazing body oil on your skin head to toe (even on your face) and let it really soak in the moisture.
Our skin is an amazing thing and if you really pay attention to it, you will easily see what you need. For instance, it almost always craves moisture, which is the answer to so many problems (wrinkles, fine lines, dark circles, sun spots, etc). If your skin is producing too much moisture (i.e. you have super oily skin), its probably because there is actually a lack of moisture so it’s overproducing. Seriously, take this time to add extra moisture to your routine, both day and night, and you will see a huge change.
Mind
This can be the hardest one for me to get in sync with everything else. Whenever I do a body detox, it’s typically because I need a change, need to re-evaluate some things or feel a little lost. For me, this is the time when I take a notebook that is separate from work stuff and do some journaling and listing. During these body detox days, I want you to list 3 things each day you are thankful for, 3 things each day you think are toxic in your life and need changed, and 3 goals you have for yourself. I’m sure by the end you will see a pattern and realize what it is you are missing from your life and the path you need to take to get there.

I hope that this helps you reconnect with yourself. It’s so easy to feel disconnected with the everyday mom shuffle that we are all living, but it is important to spend a handful of minutes (at least!) a day looking inward and focusing on our own well being. Happy body detox to ya!
XOXO,
Allison
