Botox injections don’t need to be a dirty little secret that we hide from the world (and our partner!). I’m so excited to share how I’m getting botox treatments regularly and using botox to prevent wrinkles – instead of after they’ve already happened.
I received complimentary Botox injections from Zuckerman Plastic Surgery to facilitate this review. Thanks for supporting Project Motherhood!
Why I’m Using Botox to Prevent Wrinkles
If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that I went live and showed you all the experience of me getting my very first Botox treatment at Zuckerman Plastic Surgery (who I highly recommend and have a coupon code you all you New Yorkers to use off a non-surgical treatment, too!). I was a little bit nervous and excited about the whole experience and really wanted to share it with you all – because we’re all in this together. So instead of keeping my botox experience a secret, I shared it with the world – live! I attended an event, hosted by my friend Brianne of Stroller in the City and had the best girls night out where I actually woke up the next day looking refreshed instead of hungover – it was a major win!
The day of, I started doing some research to hone in a little bit more on all the elements of botox injections that I needed to take into consideration. What surprised me more than anything was that you can use botox to prevent wrinkles. And this obviously got me thinking about self-care in general, right? It’s all about that maintenance!
So I did it. I went live (after having a few glasses of wine) and got my botox injections with you all watching from home. And afterwards, so many of you DM’d me and seem to have that same aha moment about botox that I did earlier in that day – all saying “wow, I had no idea you could use botox to prevent wrinkles!” You can, and because of the nature of botox, (explained more below) it works just as hard to prevent those nasty wrinkles we all want to avoid, especially the “mom line” I have from scowling all the time, as it does to smooth them out after they’ve already happened.
What exactly are botox treatments?
I’m going to go ahead and quote Dr. Zuckerman’s website on this one, since I’m not a doctor. It says, “Botox Cosmetic, informally known as Botox, is the brand name of an injectable product made by the company Allergan of a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Small, diluted amounts of this toxin can be directly injected into specific muscles, causing controlled relaxation of the muscles temporarily. It is the most widely used injectable globally and in Dr. Zuckerman’s practice and has long been FDA-approved for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles in several areas of the face. The temporary paralysis induced by Botox forces the affected area to fully relax eliminating existing fine lines and preventing the formation of future wrinkles.”
Side effects of botox
So let’s compare the amazing side effects of botox to motherhood here for a second. When you’re overworked and busy, you get stressed, right? But whenever you practice regular self-care (whatever that means to you), you’re able to take time for yourself, not be so stressed, and the the best mother possible. Same goes with those pesky wrinkles. Regular botox treatments allows those overworked parts of you skin (the wrinkles) to fully relax so that future wrinkles can be prevented. This is how we use botox to prevent wrinkles. And I think it’s a pretty glorious thing.
Do botox injections hurt?
This was one of my biggest worries about having my first botox treatment and one of the most frequently asked questions I got afterwards. Now, I’m sure it helped having a couple glasses of wine like I did, but overall it was pretty painless. In fact, most of the other amazing influencers that attended this botox party with me said they couldn’t really feel anything at all – so the pain is nothing to worry about when deciding to use botox to prevent wrinkles. You even get an ice pack afterwards!

I had never considered doing that but when I wake up and there’s a new wrinkle it is definitely something I’m starting to consider. Sounds like a great deal.

I have never considered using Botox before, I’ll be honest and says it scares me a little, thank you for laying out your experience with it!

I got botox once and LOVED the results. I have been wanting to go back for another treatment ever since.

This was very interesting. I had no idea that Botox could be used to help prevent wrinkles. I thought it was only used to fill them in afterwards. Thanks for the info!

I know we all like Botox but you look so young before and did not need it. I know I sound like my husband. The doctor is amazing and has a great bedside manner.

This sounds like an amazing deal for anyone interested in a simple ‘face lift’ so to speak. I know many people who have received botox injections.

I am totally interested in Botox too! I think it could take some of the “mean” wrinkles off my forehead.

I am such a chicken to have this done. I have heard of people having it done though and have loved it and have said great things about it.

I’ve wondered what getting Botox was like so it was great to read your post. I’m definitely not getting any younger so this is good information to think about.

Definitely all about the maintenance. I think I might look in to having this done…

I have always wanted to try it but worry! I have always wondered the results.

I LOVE it! After having my twins, it went downhill fast. It was clear I was tired and stressed trying to juggle 3 kids. Starting botox helped me look so much fresher. Using creams and expensive products only work so much (if you remember to use them) and do it regularly. I use fillers more to be proactive since it truly does bring back the collagen you are losing overtime!

I did not know you could do botox to prevent wrinkles, as opposed to getting rid of them! It sounds like it was a great night out!
