Cool Mama Maternity Style: Cheap Maternity Clothes
Like I mentioned last week on Instagram, I am jumping into spring fashion this week at full force and not looking back! I am SO over wearing puffy coats and even leggings (gasp) on the daily and am ready to bring on the dresses and sunshine! Obviously, things are a little bit different this year since I’m pregnant, but this cool mama maternity style can easily be translated into regular clothing and there are so many great cheap maternsity clothes options these days!
I was so wrong back in the day when I didn’t think that I could rock a maxi dress because they have become my go-to over the years and my cool mama maternity style is no different! This Cheveron Printed Bottom Maxi Dress (similar) is everything to me right now and I know that I will wear it as I transition back to my pre-pregnancy body in August, too.
Know about fit when shopping for cheap maternity clothes
When shopping for maternity clothes, don’t get the idea that you need to go up a size (unless you are expecting multiples), and stick with your pre-pregnancy size. I’m wearing a small in this dress if you needed a reference for purchase and it seriously fits like a glove. I have a ton more maternity shopping tips HERE from way back in the day when I used to work for Rosie Pope.
I love looking down at my growing belly and must admit that the view from looking down is always much bigger than how it looks in pictures. I guess this is why all pregos feel like whales all the time, huh? Because of this, I HIGHLY recommend making sure that you document your pregnancy and do a maternity shoot because you want those memories! I was so shy during my pregnancy with Branden and only have a handful of pictures and I’m so happy to have more this time around. If you live in the NYC area, please check out my girl Daniela from Photos By Daniela who took these pictures and some more coming up the following weeks! She will capture the coolest angles in your favorite places in the city so that you always have this memory at your fingertips.
We took these pictures at the super cool 1 train tunnel all the way up at 190th street and I love how the stripes and patterns of both outfits look against the graffiti. I seriously felt like a cool city mama this day!
Same deal goes with pants and shirts, keep with that pre-pregnancy size mamas! When it comes to choosing shirts, you obviously have to decide if you want to go with looser or more form fitting options, and it all comes down to what you are comfortable with.
Today I’m wearing a colorblock maternity tops (you can find a cheap maternity clothes alternative here) which isn’t too much on the fitted side and these great Ankle Skinny Jeans, which actually make my pregnant butt still look good! Both have become some of my favorite everyday essentials in my maternity wardrobe and help me feel like myself, even though my body is changing every single day.
Fashionably Yours,
Allison
