Spoiler alert: I’m not much of a baker. I know. Gasp. All the noises. BUT, that doesn’t mean that I don’t love doing it. In fact, baking is probably one of my favorite things to do with Branden (and I hope that Blake joins in next year!) – especially around the holidays. I will say this though, nothing complicated in the baking (or cooking for the matter) department for this girl. I’m all about simplicity so that I can focus on more time with the ones I love most, which is why my holiday baking always these easy Pillsbury holiday cookies.
These easy Pillsbury holiday cookies may not look like much, which is why making them in a total stress-free experience – but holy crap they taste amazing. The secret is buried deep within the flawless, turns out perfect every single time Pillsbury sugar cookies and this icing – or is it actually icing? Read on to find out, you just might be surprised!
So before I share my secret icing ingredients, I want to tell a little backstory about our holiday baking. If you follow along, you know that I’m from Pittsburgh and almost every year we travel there to spend the holiday with my family. So that we can spread the baking love, we always bring cookies that we bake with us for the holiday and share Christmas eve with everyone. My parents host Christmas eve at their house, we we fill plates will loads of sweet treats and these super easily Pillsbury holiday cookies are the first to go! (Meaning, go into everyone’s bellies!)
Like I mentioned before, Pillsbury sugar cookie dough helps me save time in the kitchen. You can easily cut the dough and create even easier classic circle sugar cookies or toss on a little flour and roll it out to do cut-outs that can be done in a matter of minutes. It saves me so much time during the busiest time of year, but still allows me to have special, hands on time with this busy 8 year old. Ya know, when I’m cool enough for his attention. It seriously makes the holidays special and allows us to keep creating memories that I hope he will pass onto his own family someday.
Drum roll please…..the secret “icing” is actually a mixture of white chocolate morsels and smashed up peppermint candy canes. You can also add a little food coloring (like we did) to make it a little bit more festive. Stick it in the microwave for 60 seconds, give a little stir and you’re ready to go! It’s so delicious, like a party in your mouth delicious and they taste so fancy whenever they sugar cookies are drizzles or half dipped in the mixture.
Of course, the last step is to dig in, which this little guy always has trouble waiting to do. In all honestly, sometimes we just bake these Pillsbury sugar cookies and eat them with nothing on them, they are the perfect addition to every holiday or regular day where everyone wants a little sometime sweet.
