5 Simple Ways to Stay Healthy (Not Including The Gym)

There really is no denying the level of difficult to stay healthy – let alone when you become a mom. We power through our days and often forget to eat, then binge on the first thing we can find (most of the time it’s something we regret) and fit in workouts whenever we can. Sound familiar? Pretty much! The thing is this: getting to the gym is great and I make sure to fit in at least 3 workouts a week, but there are lots of other things that we can do to live a healthy life, too. I’m not an expert and I’m a firm believer that you have to figure of what works best for you, but in my everyday life, these are simple ways to stay healthy that you can really feel good about.
My Simple Ways To Stay Healthy
Not only is cold and flu season approaching, but as moms we need to make sure that we have energy and maintain a healthy weight as our littles grow older. Here’s how I keep my health in check:
-
Stay Hydrated
I know this seems self explanatory or even silly for me to mention, but water helps your body function properly and if you need to carry a water bottle with you all day around the house or to run errands – do it!
-
Take a Daily Probiotic
I started taking probiotics about 4 years ago after I had a really bad stomach episode and almost called 911 while I was at work. My then manager suggested probiotics and I have never looked back. I shop for my Nature Made® Probiotics at Walmart SuperCenters (where you can get the best price, duh!) and love how they make me feel every day. Nature Made® is the #1 Pharmacist Recommended brand for many key dietary supplement categories,* I used their prenatals during and after pregnancy and we use the kids gummies for Branden everyday, but I can’t live without their probiotics.
What makes them so special? Nature Made® Advanced Dual Action Probiotic has been clinically studied and provides dual support to both your small and large intestine for comprehensive coverage to help support digestive balance and healthy gut flora.† Translation: they help keep me from getting sick and (ahem) backed up.
1. Keep With a Routine You Can Stick With
There is nothing worse than having really big ideas about a healthy eating/fitness routine and then it just not being conducive with your life. This only leads you feeling let down instead of the super hero that you are. Make a routine (start small if you need to) and stick with it.
2. Don’t Deprive Yourself
I know that I crave something sweet at the end of the day, there’s just no way around it. So instead of kicking out of my life when I know that will just eventually wind up downing a pint of ice cream, I make sure to not deprive myself and have something yummy at the end of the day. No, I’m not downing a candy bar. But I will have something like 2 oreo cookies or frozen yogurt ice cream. Make sure you keep with your portion control.
3. Keep a Positive Attitude
My positive attitude has been what’s keeping me from crumbling during my current postpartum journey. There are days when I feel wonderful and days where I look in the mirror and want to cry. Keep a positive attitude to balance out the bad days and you will ultimately achieve those goals (and probably much quicker than a negative Nancy).
Fashionably Yours,
Allison
