I’m always on the hunt for educational games for kids that I feel at ease about Branden playing – because I know he’s getting something from it. Here’s our current favorite and why you’ll want it in your kid’s hands, too.

Mom Approved Educational Games For Kids
My little guy is a tried and true gamer. As much as I pictured myself sitting sidelines as a soccer mom, I’m instead learning how to work an Xbox One, hearing about computer graphics, making sure I don’t scream too loud whenever my little guy has the Kinect engaged and am always researching new educational games for kids so that my mind is at ease whenever Branden presses play. With spring break in full swing, we give our gamer a little bit more time to actually enjoy the games he loves without the stress of homework. As we kick off this spring break, he heads to swim camp during the day and gets to come home, filled with excitement to play our new favorite educational games for kids: Game Learning’s The Lost Colony.
As a parent, navigating the digital space that we do every day, new games that our kids learn about always leave us in uncharted territory. I find myself constantly asking friends about what their kids are playing online, how appropriate these games actually are and most importantly – are they actually learning anything? Truthfully, the answers to most of the burning questions of mine are a big fat no. Which makes me really thankful for this new discovery of mine in the computer gaming world.
Why do we love these educational games for kids?
The company, Game Learning is really on the cusp of something revolutionary for kids – a way to encourage them to learn through having fun and interacting with historical content. To be completely open with you all, history (and math if I’m keeping it real) has been the biggest challenge for us with Branden in school. He doesn’t like the way it’s being taught in school, which leads him to think it’s boring and has no interest in engaging with it. The two games that they offer, The Lost Colony and Road to Revolution are bringing out a side in him that we haven’t seen before, and it’s been extremely rewarding for Chris and I. And of course, we love that they can be used on the computer at home or in the classroom and only cost $0.99 cents a month – yes per month!
Why does Branden love Game Learning’s The Lost Colony?
I think this goes without being said – but it’s fun! It’s really easy for him to open the computer, get started and instantly be transported to another world. He’s able to meet important historical figures, search for riches and even construct things. So many educational components come into play, that he doesn’t even notice that he’s learning. It’s honestly like a school curriculum as he progresses through different chapters – but it’s quite literally all fun and games.

I have to say that the coolest thing for me has been that Branden came home from school to tell me that he learned about someone in his classroom curriculum that he “met” while playing these educational games for kids and was instantly sucked into the lesson in a way he hasn’t been in a while. It warms this mama’s heart! What are your favorite educational games for kids? I really encourage you to check out Game Learning’s fantastic gaming options, play a demo and instantly be transported into another era. You may even get hooked yourself!

This looks like a great learning game. I love that educational games have finally gone full mainstream. It’s a lot easier to get the kids to play them these days.
Allison Cooper says
I couldn’t agree more! There’s way too much that kids shouldn’t be exposed to and these are great, educational options!

I am definitely all for educational games. I am one of those people that thinks that if it’s educational it has to be fun also. If it is not fun you do not want to do it and then you don’t learn. My son loves a lot of app games this would be a great one to try.
Allison Cooper says
He will really enjoy these! And I agree with your thinking – it’s the only way to get kids to engage!

I am always interested in games that have an educational value. My son plays basketball and Grand Theft Auto which i do not believe is helping him any so i want him to try Lost Colony or similar games.

I only allow my kids to play educational games these days. I do not want them to play things that are mindless.
