Essential Oil Perfume Recipe
I’ve been on a mission for the last six months or so you really make all the products that we use in our daily loves toxic-free. It’s not easy and if you are working towards doing the same, you know that the struggle is real. It’s so easy to go to Target and grab what we need from their store shelves, but so many of those products are just dripping with chemicals and bad stuff that I really don’t want touching my families bodies. Yes, there are some great products on the market, but they are often more expensive and take some hunting to find them (though I’ve been loving Dr. Bronner’s everything at Target).
It’s been easy for me to take on making things like household cleaners and such, but I admit that I greatly miss perfume. So I decided to make my own. And while I still miss the feeling of spritzing perfume on my body after I shower, as this essential oil perfume recipe goes on kinda like chapstick, it does stick with me throughout the day. If you find yourself crazy missing the spray factor of a perfume, I found that Skylar is a great toxic-free option (CLICK HERE to get a $20 credit when you sample!). We use Willow as a unisex fragrance and love it!
Why is fragrance so bad?
Before sharing the essential oil perfume recipe, I think it’s important to first jump into why it’s so important to avoid fragrance in your life. As I always say, skin is our bodies largest organ and it absorbs everything into our system, so we have to be just as cautious about what we’re putting on our skin as we do when eating. Whenever we see the word “fragrance” on the incidents of any product we’re using, it’s so extremely vague. That word fragrance can mean that there are one (or many) of over 3,000 chemicals being put on our skin.
These can contain things such as phthalates and synthetic musks, etc that are toxic and known to be cancer causing- but we have no clue. You also need to avoid things labeled with “natural” because you don’t always know what’s in that either.
Your options are basically to choose things labeled with fragrance-free or use essential oils as your only fragrance. Which is why I’ve created this lovely essential oil perfume recipe that I know you will love!
The Citrus Lavender Essential Oil Perfume Recipe
This citrus lavender essential oil perfume recipe is light, floral and sweet and wonderful to use year round!
What you need to make this essential oil perfume recipe:
- An old lip balm tin or plastic chapstick case
- 2 tsp of beeswax
- 2 tsp of your carrier oil of choice (I use sweet almond oil)
- lavender oil
- sweet orange oil
- lemon oil
Step 1: mix together your oils (12 drops of each scent) and carrier oil in a small bowl.
Step 2: melt your beeswax.
Step 3: Combine your oils with the melted beeswax, pour into container of your choice and let cool. Apply to your skin without worrying about any harmful chemicals!
You can also omit the beeswax and directly mix your oils together – however, I find that the smell lasts longer with the beeswax.
