Essential Oils For Home Use
We recently moved (you can read all about that HERE), and I’ve made some big commitments to a healthier home. I recently wrote about different swaps you can make in your daily life to live a much more toxic free lifestyle (one of my favorites making this really easy and fragrant perfume) and especially if this is something that you’re just starting to explore for you and your family, essential oils are a great way to kick things off. I mean, they obvious smell amazing and that fragrance is all chemical free, so huge score right there. However, those little tiny bottles do so much more than just make your house smell good. These are a few essential oils for the home that I always make sure I have stocked on my shelf because they are super versatile and have many uses.
First, why use essential oils for the home?
Look, I’m not going to sit here and preach about my oily life and act like it’s any better than yours. I do feel like choosing a more natural, toxic free path is the best for our family. With that being said, I’m not perfect and can’t completely remove all bad chemicals from our life, so I make it count where I can. Home is where we spend the most time, so I want this to be a healthy space for us all. Essential oils for the home are not only multi purpose, but are a wonderful, natural alternative to so many icky synthetic things out there.
5 Essential Oils For Home Use You Will Love
1. Lemon
Not only does lemon smell amazing and is incredibly uplifting, but it’s used in so many cleaning supplies for good reasons. It is naturally antiviral and antibacterial and a great addition to homemade dish soap to help cut down on greasy food stains. Buy lemon essential oil HERE.
2. Peppermint
Peppermint is a really refreshing scent to me and I often work it into different blends, especially when I’m working because it helps with concentration. But for your home, it has antibacterial properties, just like lemon and is a great addition to household cleaners. If you’re looking for a great way to get rid of pests, peppermint is a wonderful, natural solution as all insects hate the smell. Buy peppermint essential oil HERE.

3. Lavender
Lavender doesn’t just smell amazing and have incredibly soothing properties to it, it’s also a well known antibacterial aid in all of your household things. This is why it works so well in soap! In addition to adding it to my homemade vinegar cleansers, it’s also wonderful to make a homemade linen refresher (recipe here) to make your furniture smell great. Buy lavender essential oil here.
4. Tea Tree
Tea tree doesn’t smell nearly as good as the rest of them, but it sure is powerful. In addition to being able to treat ear infections naturally, it’s also great for keeping bugs away, and is a great way to fight any viruses around the home. Buy tea tree oil here.
5. Wild Orange
Wild orange is energizing, uplifting and smell oh so good! It works similarly to lemon oil, but you might even love it even more. Like lemon, it’s tough on grease and is a great way to clean all parts of your kitchen. Buy wild orange oil here.
Do I have any recipes for essential oils for home use?
I’m sure you’re probably wondering this because I listed the oils, but didn’t go into great detail about exactly how to use them. Honestly, the options are infinite. You can diffuse them to clean your air and make your home smell good, as well as making everything from soap to disinfectant to toilet bowl cleaner. I have a great recipe for toy cleaner that you can use as a simple disinfectant spray or a soak – which really great to do during the summer months. As I build my diy collection I will update with more recipes here.
