To me, a HUGE part of motherhood is the adventures you have with your family — learning, growing, and trying new things together. It’s not just the fun part of being a parent, but also the most memorable for everyone! I have such fun memories of growing up and going on vacations or day trips that brought us all together through funny situations where we laughed until we had belly aches! My goal is to have those same experiences for me and my boys.
So, whenever the opportunity came up to spend a day at The Belmont Race Track I jumped on it like two women going after the same shoes at a sample sale! I just kept thinking how elegant it all sounded and couldn’t wait to experience this first with my two loves!
Our Family Day at The Belmont Race Track
We arrived at the track and were greeted by Dan, who was in charge of showing us around and answering all of our questions–and boy did we ever have a ton, from how to place a bet, to what all those words for different bets actually mean, to where do the horses sleep (Branden!). It was such a beautiful fall day and even though the crowds weren’t filled with women decked out in those traditional huge flamboyant hats (it was fall and not Triple Crown time), you could still feel excitement in the air!
We chose to be casually dressy for the experience, because you needed to be at least wearing a jacket (for men) to be admitted into the VIP area–so we abided by the rules. If you are going to plan a trip to the tracks, I do highly recommend spending the extra money for a VIP booth. In these booths you have access to a television screen to see the race up close, and you have the ability to place your bets right there without having to run up and down the steps–a major plus when you are with children!
Why You Should Take Your Family to The Belmont Race Track
This is a great experience simply because there is something for everyone! Branden enjoyed sitting back and watching the horses tear around the race track, and Chris and I had fun betting on them, and though we didn’t win, it was a blast trying! The atmosphere is full of excitement, anticipation, and yes, frustration, with losing tickets strewn on the ground like snowflakes. But with every race, there IS a winner, and I loved the photo finishes the most! It was fun to get dressed up and experience the day as a family–because it was a first for us all! And I have to say (no judgement), it was nice to be able to have a drink in a family-friendly environment with my husband on a beautiful, sunny, Sunday afternoon while drinking in a whole new world at the Belmont! Simply perfection!
Have you ever taken your family to the race tracks?
Fashionably Yours,
Allison
