Healthy Breakfast Ideas for Kids
Mornings these days are such a whirlwind. Between Blake waking me up almost every day before my alarm clock and pokey Branden taking forever to get out the door I’m always rushed and worrying that my kids won’t make it to the bus stop on time. Mom life, amiright? Like all parents, I’m always on the hunt for healthy breakfast ideas for kids, but they absolutely have to be easy and something I can make ahead. I’m definitely not winning any awards over here for mom of the year and can’t imagine the last time I made a full breakfast from scratch on a school morning. I can only assume that school days are just as busy for you all, so in my totally practical approach to parenting and trying my best to fulfill your healthy breakfast ideas for kids search and give you my go-to breakfast cookie recipe.
Seriously, our kids think that they are having dessert for breakfast with this healthy breakfast recipe and to me, that is a total mom win.
My secret ingredient for this healthy breakfast recipe
Before I move any further, I have to share the star ingredient in this breakfast cookie recipe: Crispy Green! You have all heard me talk about our favorite freeze-dried fruits all month long that have no sugar added, are allergy friendly, non-gmo and taste amazing all month long and I’m so excited to finally share a healthy breakfast recipe that they truly compliment so beautifully. Now don’t get me wrong, Crispy Green eats like a chip and are great for snacking on alone, but this is a fun way I’ve been incorporating them into our mornings!

How to make this breakfast cookie recipe
This healthy breakfast recipe is a wonderful way to not only fuel your kiddos throughout the day but allows them to get into the kitchen and help make them, too. As I shared in my first post with Crispy Green, Branden is our super picky eater, and getting him involved has been one of my mom tactics for getting him to try new things. And as an added bonus they are proud of their contribution and want to eat it, too.
What you need to make this healthy breakfast recipe:
- 1/4 cup coconut sugar
- 2 and a 1/2 cups of old fashioned oats
- 3/4 cup flour of your choice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 1 ripe banana
- 1/2 cup + 1 tablespoon milk
- 2-3 bags of the Crispy Green of your choice (our kids prefer apple and banana)
Step one: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and line your baking sheet with parchment paper. If you don’t have any handy, you can give it a good spray with cooking spray.
Step two: To make this breakfast cookie recipe you will first need to mix all of the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl. This is a great step to get the kids involved!
Step three: Then you want to add all of your wet ingredients one by one, mixing until everything is combined.
Step four: scoop your dough onto your cooking sheet into 12 equal breakfast cookies!
Step five: Pat them down a tiny bit so they aren’t in a ball shape and bake for 15-17 minutes depending on your oven until golden brown.
Step six: Remove your breakfast cookies from the oven and carefully place your favorite Crispy Green on top. Let them cool completely before eating.
