So I’ve always bought gifts that give back every single year, making sure that I can feel good about the things that I’m gifting people. I think it makes the whole process even more personal, giving you a story to tell as you hand your gift out. But, it wasn’t until I was speaking recently with our editor that I learned how there are different deals and programs facilitated each year by places such as department stores to online boutiques that help you earn rewards and money towards amazing causes – no matter the purchase!
Holiday Shopping That Gives Back {Deals & Programs}
Macy’s
This is the BIG one! Beginning in September (so that you can think ahead to next year), you can start enrolling in Macy’s Thanks For Sharing Program by paying a small $25 fee through your Macy’s card. Once you have done that, you get 10% of your purchases at Macy’s until December 31st in the form of a rebate sent back to you as a Macy’s gift card in the late winter! (Right about when you’ve forgotten about it, your Gift Card shows up and makes your day!!) For your joining this program, Macy’s will make a $10 donation, up to a total of $15 million. The first $3.4 million raised will benefit Go Red For Women®. The balance, up to an additional $11.6 million, will be donated to Make-A-Wish®, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®, The RESPECT! Campaign™, an initiative of Futures Without Violence®, and the following local charities: Big Brothers Big Sisters and Local Boys and Girls Clubs. Wow!
Kohl’s
They provide holiday shopping that gives back through their Kohl’s Cares Foundation, a great way to help kids this season, and get some goodies for the kiddos on your list while you’re at it! Everything from this collection gives 100% of the net profit goes towards kids’ health and education initiatives, worldwide. More than $257 million has been raised in 2000!
JC Penney
JC Penney has a caring program themselves, called JCP Cares – and is a great program to keep in mind year round! You don’t need to be a cardholder, but whenever you shop with them either online or in store, you can opt to round your purchase up to the nearest dollar – giving the difference to the monthly charity of choice!
AmazonSmile
I never knew that Amazon had this program until I researched this post, which makes me think that you might not know about it either! Through AmazonSmile, they will donate 0.5% of every purchase that you make from the program towards the charitable organization of your choice. It doesn’t get much better than that!
Lowe’s
This organization has been around since 1957! They work towards a philanthropic focus on K–12 public education and community improvement. Schools and communities seeking financial help can apply to be part of the program, and Lowe’s will use proceeds from regular purchases to benefit them! You can learn more here.
Walmart Community Giving
Walmart’s Community Giving program helps give people a better life. They work towards creating a positive impact on the communities that they enter with their thousands of volunteers. Each year, they donate millions of dollars to organizations around the world.
eBay for Charity
eBay for Charity is an awesome program that allows sellers to donate proceeds to charities – many of them being high profile celebrities! Everyone can get involved, simply by shopping or selling with eBay and making purchases you know are going toward charities of all kinds!
