How to Wear Tights: 7 Secrets to Rocking Tights With Every Outfit
Autumn is just around the corner which means it’s time for all those cozy things you love – tights, boots, scarves, and more. Tights can be a tricky accessory if you don’t know how to wear them right, but have no fear – that’s what we’re here for. We’ve put together a list of great tips for how to wear tights and rocking hosiery in your everyday life.
Tips for how to wear tights
In all seriousness, it’s not as hard as it seems. They are great for layering on chilly days and might just make you want to buy more skirts, too.
Tip #1: Use tights to add some color.
Tights are a great way to add some flare to your otherwise monochromatic outfit. Adding tights for a pop of color can completely change how your outfit looks – and, you have plenty of color options when wearing with black or brown. If you’re wearing a short dress, try pairing the outfit with a cute pair of ankle boots.
Tip #2: Use tights to transition between seasons.
Tights are not only a great color addition to your outfit, but they can also help provide some warmth to your otherwise bare legs. Try pairing black tights with a spring dress to transition your way into the fall season. Or, wear tights with a cable knit sweater – just make sure to add a belt to your look for a little more shape. The beauty of these pairs is that you can wear it with nearly any shoe – an ankle boot, flats, or pumps.
Tip #3: Use patterns to make your outfit pop!
If your outfit is fairly plain, find yourself some colorful patterned tights to make it pop. Try fishnets, lace, or some other pattern and wear it with a skirt and boots for a cute fall look.
Tip #4: Get a sleek look with sheer tights.
Tights made from a sheer material can turn your look from drab into sleek and sophisticated. Try them out for a fancy dinner, romantic date, or a ladies’ night on the town. Pair them with pumps or stilettos for a beautiful and sexy look.
Note: If you work in an office and want to wear sheer tights, choose a nude color for a more subtle look.
Tip #5: Sport tights with shorts for a dressy, yet casual look.
Wearing tights with shorts was all the rage a couple seasons ago – and it’s carried through to the fall of 2012. Try black tights with tweed or denim shorts and pair it with a vest for a one-of-a-kind look.
Tip #6: Pair solid tights with a printed dress.
Wear solid-colored tights with a printed dress for a fun fall look. Choose a color from the dress and find matching tights to highlight that color. And, you can rock the look with both heels or flats, depending on your mood.
Tip #7: Tights are not pants.
Our final tip (and perhaps the most important) tip is this: Tights are not pants. Tights are not pants. Whatever you do, don’t mistake tights as a substitute for pants. Even if you’re wearing a long tunic, you should always pair a skirt, shorts, or dress with your tights. Leggings and jeggings are fine as pants but please, ladies: Make sure there’s something covering your behind!
These 7 tips can make or break your fall wardrobe, so be sure to keep them in mind before you step out the door. With a little attention to these secrets, you’ll be rocking a great look with tights!
