Curious how to succeed as a work from home mom? In this honest post, I share the systems, mindset shifts, and support that helped me grow my business from home.

My journey, lessons, and what I want every ambitious mom to know.

Working from home as a mom isn’t all cozy loungewear and flexible schedules (though I won’t lie—those things are nice). It’s also boundaries, time-blocking, late nights, early mornings, and the mental gymnastics of switching between “business brain” and “mom mode” all day long.

But I’ve done it—and continue to do it. I’ve built businesses, launched content, hosted masterclasses, and created steady income… all from the same house where my babies learned to walk and where snack requests are still shouted across the living room.

And if you’re a work from home mom—or hoping to become one—I want to share how I’ve made it work, how I’ve stayed sane (mostly), and how I’ve found success in a way that feels sustainable, fulfilling, and yes, imperfect.

1. I Defined What “Success” Meant for Me

Before I ever called myself a “mompreneur,” I was drowning in what I thought success should look like. A picture-perfect house. A structured 9-5 schedule. Zero distractions. Total balance.

Spoiler alert: That doesn’t exist.

What helped me succeed as a work from home mom was redefining success. For me, it’s being present with my kids and building a business that lights me up. It’s flexibility. It’s slow mornings. It’s impact. It’s not working 40 hours a week—it’s making the most of the 15 I do have.

If you’re going to build something from home, build it around your values. Not someone else’s highlight reel.

2. I Set Boundaries—And Actually Stuck to Them

Boundaries are your best friend as a work from home mom. I’m talking boundaries with your time, your energy, your phone, your clients, your kids, and yes—even yourself.

Here’s what this has looked like for me:

  • I don’t take client calls after 2:30 PM—being present when the kids get off the bus is sacred.
  • My kids know that when the “office” door is closed, mom is working.
  • I have set times for social media (no more scrolling while I’m supposed to be resting).
  • I give myself permission to log off—without guilt.

These boundaries didn’t happen overnight, but they’ve changed everything.

3. I Built My Business in Layers, Not All at Once

A big myth I want to bust right now? That you need to do it all right away.

I built Project Motherhood in layers. First, it was a blog. Then it became a community. Then a business. Then came the email list, the brand partnerships, the masterclasses, and now the Mompreneur Vault.

Each layer was built with intention—not overwhelm.

Success didn’t come from doing everything at once. It came from doing the next right thing consistently.

4. I Asked for Help (Even When It Was Uncomfortable)

As moms, we’re conditioned to believe we should do it all. But that mindset will wreck your health, your business, and your joy.

I’ve succeeded because I stopped trying to do it alone. I:

  • Asked my partner to take bedtime duty so I could finish a deadline
  • Hired a virtual assistant (game changer!)
  • Leaned on mom friends who get it
  • Outsourced tasks that drained me

Asking for help isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom.

5. I Created a System That Works for My Family

I’m not going to pretend I have a Pinterest-perfect morning routine. But I do have systems.

I batch content creation.
I prep ahead on Sundays.
I use a shared Google Calendar so everyone knows what’s happening.
I time-block my tasks (and include breaks!).
I plan for chaos—because… kids.

I’ve created a rhythm that works for our household—and that flexibility is why I love working from home.

6. I Focus on Progress, Not Perfection

Some days, I feel wildly productive. Other days, I’m just proud I managed to answer a few emails while reheating my coffee for the third time.

And that’s okay.

Being a work from home mom is not about being perfect. It’s about showing up, doing your best, and building something that supports your life—not something that consumes it.

Let go of the pressure. Keep taking the next step.

7. I Found (and Created) Community

This journey can feel isolating—but it doesn’t have to be.

I’ve found so much strength from other moms who are also building businesses, raising babies, and figuring it out in real-time. It’s why I created the Mompreneur Vault—a free resource library, community, and safe space for moms who are done playing small.

If you’re navigating life as a work from home mom and want support, strategy, or just someone who gets it—this space is for you.
