I started the year off very sick and I’m sharing my story to help prevent it from happening to anyone else. More than ever, we have to make our health a priority.
This is a sponsored post. Thanks for supporting Project Motherhood!
I sat down to write this post and I honestly typed in the title as “I don’t know what to even call this.” We are about 8 weeks into 2022, and 6 weeks so far have been a blur of me basically just surviving. I got very sick, and now I am thankfully back to normal, but more than ever I want to stress how important it is to make our health a priority.
Let’s backup here first.
I rarely get sick. I push through when feeling a bit under the weather, take my supplements, and am overall a very healthy person. But the week after Christmas I had an awful sinus infection that knocked me out. Then, I shared that I had Covid, which happened at the beginning of January. Back to back.

I did all the right things. I quarantined. I never left the house. I overall seemed to have Covid pretty mild. Two weeks had past and I thought I was on the mend. Then I started with incredibly awful GI issues.
Basically: I stopped eating because it felt like my body was rejecting food. Anytime I tried to eat, I got so sick. My primary care doctor diagnosed me with something called Gastritis, and started me on medication for that. But it didn’t help, at least not right away.
This lasted for three full weeks of saying “tomorrow will be better” before I finally went to the emergency room. Imagine that? We all would have had our kids in the emergency room on day one. That really puts things into perspective.
Once there, they wouldn’t give me a formal diagnoses, but it became a mad dash to treat my symptoms so that I would stop losing weight and be able to eat again. I just kept being told that it was extended Covid side effects.

I was put on a hefty dose of medications and my issues continued for about another week before I was finally back to normal. For reference, that’s about a week and a half ago.
I’m not 100% sure if THIS is what I had, but my sister sent me an article that is eerily close to what I experienced, but less mild. It is very frightening to me that me that we all can have life-long side effects from this virus and that there is so much that we don’t know. I have always made sure that taking care of my gut is a priority, and I credit that mindset for my illness only lasting 3.5 weeks, when it could have gone much, much longer. (Seriously, read the article, your jaw will drop.)
I want to thank the sponsor of this article, Ameo Life, who is amazing and encouraged me to tell this story. Health comes first to this incredible company and they have inspired me to change the way I’m taking care of myself.
How?
By stepping up my game when it comes to probiotics.

What is different about the Ameo Life probiotics?
Ameo Life probiotic is the only patented process probiotic supplement available that delivers the perfect balance of pre and probiotics to support the digestive system.
Digest that (no pun intended hah!) for a second.
I’m no stranger to talking about probiotics, but these are different.
If you are interested in and found yourself researching probiotics, you may have discovered that many probiotic supplements promote a high number of Colony Forming Units (CFUs) as the most important feature of their product. But, if these billions of microorganisms can’t withstand the harsh environment of the digestive system, you are pouring your $$$ down the toilet.
With Ameo Life, their first goal was to overcome this challenge by creating a shelf stable probiotic to survive the journey from the manufacturer to your gastro-intestinal tract and into your large intestine.
Our digestive system is, by design, extremely acidic. To ensure the survival rate of the probiotic microorganisms, Ameo Life incorporated OPTI-BIOME® Patented technology.

My main takeaway: I don’t know how to stress this anymore, but take care of yourself. This experience was humbling. I had to cling to my husband and kids for support like I’ve never had to. I had to take a breaks, and I’m not the person who takes breaks.
Can you relate?
Take the breaks. Get yourself to a healthy place. Make time for yourself.
XOXO,
Allison
