Over the years, I’ve learned so many different things from my mom, it’s honestly hard to count the lessons I’ve learned. In more recent years though, I find myself speaking and saying things exactly like she does and I realize that even though we are hours apart, that I always carry pieces of her with me wherever I go. So thankful to have Hefty® as my brand partner on this post to share more of our story with you all today and because Mother’s Day is right around the corner, I encourage you all to stop and remember just how strong and wonderful your mama is, too.
Mom Knows Best
Me, like probably every single other mom on the planet, always worries about the messages that I’m sending my kids. I know that they watch everything we do, and take in our actions even more than our words, so I try to be conscious of this and hold myself accountable of being a good person – but life happens, and I’m certainly not perfect. The thing about moms is this though: we always remember the good that they have brought into our lives. Yes, there are some hilarious memories of how we got in big trouble and mom completely lost it, that we joke about with our siblings as adults, but I honestly only really focus on the good, the lessons and all the magical memories that I have from my childhood. I can only hope that my children will think of me the same.
My mom was a Pinterest Mom…before that was even a thing.
My mom wasn’t extremely crafty and neither am I, but she always made sure that we did a fun craft or made a holiday treat every single season without fail. Seriously, there are still white sweatshirts with puffy paint in snowman form floating around our bedroom drawers. She was even room mom for each of us 4 children at one point in our elementary school career. Even though the craft (and baking for that matter) gene really wasn’t passed down to me, this memory from my childhood has always taught me to be as present as I can with my kids and even though it doesn’t have to be every day, to do things that make holidays extra special. They will hold these memories dear someday…even if they act like I’m a pain for having too much holiday spirit right now.
My mom was the ultimate budgetter (yes, I’m making that a word).
Being the mother of 4 very active kids, my mom knew how to budget better than anyone I knew. She always had her coupons handy and we never went without anything. Now here I am, as an adult, and I’ve adopted all of these skills so that I’m able to do the very same thing for my family. Living in NYC with two children is an incredible expense and without knowing a little bit about financial planning whenever I got married, I honestly don’t know how we would survive. Thanks mom!
My mom taught me to keep traditions alive.
I love all of the special traditions for my childhood that revolve around holidays or getting a special piece of jewelry when we turned 18 and even the casserole that she makes every Christmas morning. I think that in a sense, traditions make us who we are and the fact that my mom has always been the one to keep these alive my entire childhood has fueled my desire to do the same for our kids – and even start our own traditions.
Just like Hefty® trash bags, today’s moms are Ultra Strong in everything they do. Raising kids in today’s world is tough stuff and strength and courage is something we need to have inside of us every single day. Hefty® is helping to celebrate strong moms in honor of Mother’s Day by teaming up with John Cena and his mom Carol Cena (just like last year!) and you can check out their funny video here.

My mom is Ultra strong because our father and her husband of 30 years died and she was able to still parent. She was so strong and kept us together.

Every Christmas we make the same stuffing that my mom passed down to me that was passed down to her. She also taught me how to bake and I still follow her recipes.

It is great that you have such love for your mother. Mother’s Day is hard because my mom is in Brazil and I have no relatives here! I try to enjoy it with my son and husband!

I’m a single mom too. I worry about all the same stuff. I just hope I can be as good a mom as my mom was.

It sounds like you have an amazing relationship with your mom! My mom is so not tech savvy! lol I agree, as moms, we are always worried about the messages we are sending our kids. It’s a huge responsibility that we’re always afraid of messing up.

What a wonderful super strong mother you have. Sounds a lot like my own mother and as for me, I can’t go a day without pinning some of my latest creative finds on my Pinterest boards!

My mom was super crafty so I remember doing all the fun projects with her. We made puff paint sweatshirts too. I’m not so crafty but I try with my kids and we definitely use Hefty trash bags for clean up.
