We added a new addition to our family and are so excited to introduce him to you!
We have always, always considered ourselves “dog people,” but never owned a dog as a family. Or really any pet at all. Chris grew up with dogs who the kids never got to meet and I grew up with one dog my whole life who only Branden and Chris got to meet. Up until now, Branden still said that Logan, my special half yellow lab and half golden retriever “pup” was the only one he ever loved.
Branden has always had a little fear of dogs, while Blake, bold about everything, would wrestle bitey puppies she just met for the first time. Because of their differences, and the want to add another member to the Cooper crew (except this one would be fury and not talk back to me) we knew that the answer to solving Branden’s fears + giving Blake an extra outlet for her energy would be a family dog.
We knew once we moved that we wanted to make this happen and Chris and I had both been stalking our local rescue’s Facebook pages like crazy and on a whim last week, we went to the Mahoning County Dog Warden (they deserve a major shoutout for all the wonderful work they do!). We kept saying that we were just looking, but I think we all knew that we were going to walk out of there with a new family member.
Today, we’re SO excited to introduce you all to Oliver, who finally moved in with us last night after he was neutered. I can’t even explain the excitement our whole household felt waiting in anticipation for him to come home. He is a terrier/beagle mix, two years and two months old, and is as sweet as can be. I think his sweetness is what made us all fall in love with him instantly and even left Branden not wanting to leave the pound that day to go home without him.
I have to say it was so hard to walk into the dog pound and not leave with every single dog in tow, so if I can encourage everyone to volunteer, visit, or adopt from your local shelter I’m going to do it. These joyful pups have been through a lot and need good families to love them and we just can’t wait to be that safe place for Oliver. Bring on this new adventure!
XOXO,
Allison
