As of lately, I find myself in this place where I start my day with great healthy eating intentions and as the day progresses, things go downhill. It’s not like I really want to eat the leftovers from dinner the night before or throw a quick sandwich together (as I try to stay away from the carbs because I love them so!), but they are easily accessible in a crunch. For the longest time, I tried to stay away from anything in the frozen aisle, but Healthy Choice has just released their new Power Bowls that are seriously frozen meals for the healthy mom. When you are looking for quick and healthy, these are what to stock your freezer with.
For me, things change a lot in my day to day. Yes, most of the time I am home behind the computer and chasing after a very quick baby all day, but sometimes I’m out at events, speaking engagements or sneaking in a quick park trip and the day gets thrown off course. This is when things get a little shaky and leads me to reach for foods that aren’t so healthy. But even more than that, when I’m not thinking ahead and have meals planned, what I’m reaching for isn’t exactly giving me the energy that I need to be a mom and present with my work. This is why I need to make sure that I always have access to quick and healthy meals.
Quick and Healthy Meals
Healthy Choice has just released their brand new Power Bowls that have become that solution for me. Seriously mamas, I let these hang out in my freezer for a week before I even sat down to write this, and they have become an awesome part of my healthy routine. When I have time, I will make a fresh salad for lunch, but when I don’t (or just am not in the mood), these are a delicious alternative to keep me balanced and my nutrition in check.
My favorite is the Korean-Inspired Beef Bowl that includes all natural USDA choice beef, shiitake mushrooms and vegetables served on top of brown & red rice, red quinoa and black barley with a spicy gochujang and soy sauce topped with black & white sesame seeds. It’s got a little kick and is so good! They also added the Adobo Chicken Bowl made with pulled all natural chicken breast with vegetables served on top of brown & red rice, red quinoa and black barley with a guajillo chili sauce topped with roasted pepitas – a great mix to add to your regular lunch rotation!
There are two new quick and healthy power bowls now available in stores: Chicken Sausage & Barley and Cuban-Inspired Pork Bowl, which I will be adding to my lunch options as well. Your taste buds will never get bored with these fun flavors!

I imagine there is MSG and a lot of sodium in those.

Yes! I was thinking the same thing

The bowls are also a fast and healthy option for senior citizens..
ps. Your daughter is adorable.
Stacey says
I would love to know the sodium content
michael says
600mg
Theresa says
The sodium content on the 4 I checked out on the Healthy Choice website are at 600mg which in the grand scheme of 2,300 – 2,400 mg per day, is about 25-26% of your daily intake. Depending on your diet may not be a deal breaker. I will definitely try them as an “eat this opposed to fast food” option.
P.S. I agree. Your daughter is a cutie!! 😉
Rosemary says
Average sodium 518 mg. Go on their website.

I hope you are removing it from the plastic container and heating it in a microwave safe bowl. The chemicals that leech into your foodwhen heating in plastic would negate any “health benefits”.
Allison Cooper says
Thanks for the tip Judy! This is actually a cold salad, so no heating required!

All four have barley, so celiac and other gluten-free families need to give this a pass, dratdratdrat.
The other ingredients sound DELICIOUS; hope they come out with gluten-free selections very soon!
