When you become a parent, there’s so much to consider. There are so many benefits to cord blood registry and if you’re considering, here’s some information to look over before making your final decision.
Cord Blood Registry Event And What You Need To Know As a Parent
“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for the Cord Blood Registry. I received promotional items to thank me for my participation.”
On December 5th, a group of us New York City Mom bloggers were gathered together by Mom Central to attend an event at the renowned Russian Tea Room to discuss a very important issue…cord blood! The event was beautiful, of course! (How could it NOT be? We were at The Russian Tea Room, for goodness sakes!) Though I do have to say that hearing the speakers talk about this issue brought back a lot of memories to me about my pregnancy.
I was fortunate enough that my doctor had given me a welcome package, which contained information about cord blood banking, but there wasn’t as much information being given out then as there is now, and my husband and I were turned off because of the cost. Now, I wish it was something that we had done because of the amazing benefits, but the cost has also greatly reduced to $130 per year or $2,000 per lifetime. HUGE difference! It also surprised me how many people with children our son’s age in the room hadn’t been given ANY information about cord blood registry and banking! Shocking!
What is a cord blood registry?
This is the PAINLESS process of taking the stem cells from the cord blood immediately after a baby is born. There is about a vial’s worth that is taken, and you pay a yearly fee to store this blood to use whenever you, family, or friends may need it, to help treat a medical condition.
Here are some key points about cord blood registry that stood out to me:
- The cord blood can be used to treat over 80 conditions, and studies are currently underway with the FDA to test it for treating things like autism, stroke, and cerebral palsy.
- There are financing options available.
- It is possible to add cord blood banking as an option on your baby gift registry.
- Currently, less than 10% of parents choose to bank their child’s cord blood.
- You can also choose to donate your child’s cord blood.
- If you do not bank the cord blood or donate it, it will be automatically discarded.
It really is amazing what cord blood registry can do, so I urge all your prego Mamas to speak with your doctor and/or take other steps to educate yourself about these options! Here’s some more mom preparation tips in the meantime!
Fashionably Yours,
Allison
