Dear Diary,
Moving into the New Year, there are always things that we want to work on, change, and make better. My husband and I have been working on trying to spend more time together, putting our relationship first, and ultimately experience some new things together. I mean, dinner and a movie can be great, but it gets a little repetitive after a while and loses its appeal. So starting in December and moving forward, we have made a commitment to one another to try out some new things!
And of course, I’m going to be sharing all of our adventures with you all through my new monthly blogging series called: Relationship Building Activities. So follow along, and you just might find something new and exciting to do with your loved one.
Indoor Rock Climbing at Brooklyn Boulders
This December, my husband and I got to spend a day at Brooklyn Boulders and learn how to conquer their 22,000 square foot wall. This was something that my husband, Chris, has been dying to do for a long time, so I said “What the heck?!” I have always been interested in it as well, but was a little nervous about giving it a try.
We arrived there in the morning and received a great tutorial by one of Brooklyn Boulders amazingly helpful staff, then we were on our own to have some fun! I honestly felt like a kid again, of which in fact there were many there, and we plan to take Branden back for some rock climbing adventures of his own. But I digress, this post is about me and the hubby!
We focused on bouldering that day, a method of climbing the wall without a harness or being strapped to any ropes. My husband easily made it to the top of the wall with ease, me on the other hand had some challenges. I would say that I made it about half way up the wall and if that’s all I’m ever able to do, I will still be proud of myself, since I have a little fear of heights and my upper body strength is totally not where it should be!
But either way, it was such a fun experience and I’m so excited that Chris and I got to do it for the first time together!
So, what was relationship building about indoor rock climbing?
For us, the relationship building aspect came from working together and encouraging one another. (Him needing to encourage me MUCH more than I did with him!) It was exciting to experience something that we both have never done before and be able to share that memory. And it is a great first “step upwards”, lol, towards exploring all that is available in the world around us, together.
