Seasonal Allergy Relief
Both of our kiddos have suffered with seasonal allergies since they were babies. Without fail, at the turn of each season, they both start with the runny nose and watery eyes and we go through tissues like mad. As you guys know, I really do try to turn to essential oils first before anything else and heal our family using natural, toxic free methods, and I wish I started making this allergy relief balm years ago! We’ve always had more problems with Branden whenever it comes to seasonal allergies, but so far this year has been a big easier. He did have his adenoids removes in March, so that has obviously been a huge help, but using this allergy relief balm has been incredibly helpful.
How to use this essential oil seasonal allergy relief balm
As you know, we’re all used to administering allergy medication to our kiddos whenever they are suffering. We might use a humidifier at night and even throw in some essential oils, but this blend takes things to a whole new level. This recipe is actually for a balm, meaning that it’s stored in a small glass jar and almost feel like a cross between chapstick and vaseline. To apply, I recommend using it each morning, so that kids and your family as a whole get into the habit of using it everyday, and rubbing a tiny bit underneath your nose and a little bit into your nostrils. You can use as needed throughout the rest of the day. That’s it!
DIY Essential Oil Balm Recipe
- Small glass jar or tin
- 6 drops of lemon essential oil
- 6 drops of lavender essential oil
- 6 drops of peppermint essential oil
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons beeswax pellets
First, why these essential oils?
There is always a reason behind why we use the essential oils that we do! As you can tell by now, lavender is used in so many different recipes because it does so many amazing things. Combined with peppermint and lemon, this balm not only smells amazing but they all have antihistamine properties as well as act as an inflammatory. You will quickly notice decreased, sneezing, running nose and water eyes. And then the coconut oil helps to keep you moisturized, while the beeswax helps to keep things you don’t want in your nose, out.
To make: You want to first take a pot or skillet and fill it with about two inches of water and turn it on to low/medium heat with your glass jar and beeswax measures out inside. The heat from the boiling water will melt the beeswax – just make sure you keep your eyes on it! Whenever it has melted completely, remove the jar and place on a surface that can withstand heat.
Immediately add your coconut oil followed by your essential oils and stir until everything is mixed. Let cool and then you will be ready to use this completely non toxic, natural, seasonal allergy relief balm!
