I’ve been sharing my weight loss story for quite some time. As I approach age 37 this year, here are my secrets to losing weight and what’s finally working.

This is a sponsored post. Thanks for supporting Project Motherhood.

I have a love/hate relationship with writing posts like these. I love sharing things that I’ve learned with you all over the years which has helped me tremendously. But, I hate that losing weight can be such a struggle and take up too much space in my head sometimes. Sound familiar? It’s like a code that I’m always looking to crack and quite frankly, it’s an emotional journey.

Since I started my weight loss journey a few years ago and really documenting it all, I’ve changed some things along the way – for the better. I feel like I’m starting to crack the secrets to losing weight for my body and I hope they help you, too.

Secrets to Losing Weight: What’s Finally Working

I wouldn’t be me though, if I didn’t share it all. So here goes: my secrets to losing weight, which aren’t really secrets at all, since I’m spilling the beans today!

weight loss secrets

I started eating breakfast again.

Gasp. No more intermittent fasting for me? That’s right, you read it here first! I’ve become a lot more active as I’ve gotten older because it takes a little bit more activity to reach my goals and I’ve found that eating a high-protein breakfast helps me get a better workout. I’ve also learned that my body has probably been living in starvation mode and I needed to fix my metabolism and get things moving again in the right direction, and for me, it took breakfast to do that.

Gut health is a HUGE focus.

I talk about gut health so much that you are probably getting sick of reading about it, but I’m going to say it again: gut health is everything! If you aren’t going to the bathroom regularly, you will have a hard time managing your weight. If you aren’t focusing on gut health, you will have trouble with your immune system and not have the energy to make your health a priority (especially if you’re sick all the time). Gut health is the epicenter of everything that I do. This is why I religiously take 2 Ameo Life Patented Process Probiotics every single morning.

They come with me when I travel and if I spend the night at my parents or anywhere besides home –  they are always with me!

I get my daily steps in.

I’ve recently learned the importance of getting your daily NEAT steps in as part of a successful weight loss plan. This stands for Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (or NEAT) and refers to the energy that we use to do daily activities outside of exercise. For me, I aim for 8-10,000 steps per day which can seem like a lot, but if you make an effort to stand up and walk in place for a few minutes each hour – it’s achievable!

Weightlifting is the most crucial part of my fitness routine.

I spent a LOT of time in my life focusing on running and thinking that cardio and only cardio was the key to my thinner self. This couldn’t be further from the truth. I weight lifted a little bit in high school, but in 2021 I really upped my game. Now, I rotate between a leg day, a back and chest day, and an arm and shoulder day, totaling 5x a week weight lifting. This is where I’m finally starting to see fat and inches lost.

I count protein only.

Instead of restricting myself, I wake up every day and think about what I GET TO EAT to reach my daily protein goal of 125 grams. This looks similar each day because I love my high-protein foods such as yogurt, protein waffles, shakes, and meats, and helps to guide me through the right nutrition on a daily basis.

I started spinning again.

I never said that I was going to do away with cardio! I love spinning and recently started adding it to my workout routine, twice a week. With these types of classes, I get resistance training mixed in with my cardio. And one extra bonus tip: I make sure that I also take one full rest day a week so that my muscles can actually recover and grow.
