Getting through everything with the coronavirus has been tough on everyone. For me, I need something to focus on, other than the negative, that gives me something to work towards or a goal to hit. I’m not trying to lose weight, just always have the goal of staying healthy and running has really become a big focus of mine these past few years. If you follow my Instagram stories, you saw that I hit a major running milestone (7 miles, baby!) and am really trying to hit about 30 total miles a week between the treadmill and outdoor running trails.
With working out more comes a whole new set of problems because you have sore muscles, chaffing (yup, real woman with real woman thighs over here), etc. The last thing that I want to happen is that any of those things keep you from getting your workout in, so I wanted to make sure you had some summer fitness tips handy that will help you overcome anything standing in your way of a good sweat sesh!
Summer Fitness Tips For Moms
1. Pay attention to the forecast.
The forecast will totally be your ally during the hot summer months! Paying attention to the weather lets me know which days I can run at the park and which days I need to be home on the tread. It will basucally be your guide for when you need to have an indoor versus an outdoor workout planned and mapping out your week is cruscial for actually getting it done.
2. Buy an epic pair of ear buds.
I am obsessed with my Tranya Rimor True Wireless Earbuds and after using them for about a month now I could enver go back to my traditional head phones. There is nothing better than being free of those pesky wires while you’re getting your sweat on! What I love most about these are that they only take 10 minutes to charge and can be used for 90 minutes after that, they have assive noise cancellation, are super lightweight and waterproof (I’m a sweater!), and the sound is honestly amazing! Get yourself a pair…now!
3. Get your hands on some anti-chaffing balms!
I’ve been using Zone Naturals for about two months now and I’m loving how well they work! They have a formula for bust, blisters, and just general chub areas (I use that one on my thighs) and it works wonders while I’m running. Made with Aloe, Shea Butter, Tea Tree Oil, they are the perfect addition to my running routine!

4. While you’re at it – make sure your dressed properly!
Buy fitness clothes that are moisture wicking clothes and specific pieces that allow you to dress for the type of workout that you plan on doing. Light colors are best during the summer months.
5. Don’t forget your sunscreen!
I’m guilty of this one, but it’s so important to make sure that you don’t forget how harsh those summer sun rays are and that they are shining pretty much all day long – even on the cloudiest days. Don’t forget that spf! You all know how I am a big advocate for clean beauty, so we always make sure that we have Project Sunscreen roll-ons handy for the kid’s and Chris and I use Beautycounter.
6. Find a sports bra that actually fits.
Let’s be real: an ill-fitted sports bra will ruin your whole workout. I have an entire blog post dedicated to finding a sports bra that actually fits and I recomend having quite a few good ones handy! Read: How to Find a Sport’s Bra That Actually Fits

7. Consider splitting up your workouts.
Sometimes its just scourching outside in the summertime, no matter how early you wake up. If you get outside to start working out and realize that you just can’t do it, don’t for yourself! Give yourself a break and pick up where you left off in the evening whenever the temperature cools down.
8. Include the kiddos!
Doing things like hiking, jumping on the trampoline, etc can double as family fun and a workout – get it in where you can, mama!
