The Best Essential Oils for Traveling
I love to travel and honestly wish that we got to do more of it. You all know that I’m obsessed with essential oils and since many spring breaks are coming up and the season of summer travel is upon us, I wanted to share the best essential oils for traveling that I make sure we have handy. Keep scrolling for my full list of must-have essential oils for traveling as well as how to properly store them to avoid leaks and oil stains all through your luggage!
5 must-have essential oils for travel
Here are all the important essential oils for travel to have packed just in case you need a quick fix on the go!
For energy: While vacationing, we often have a go, go, go attitude that can quickly get the best of us. For me, all the citrus oils are perfect for giving me an extra energy boost while traveling. My favorites are sweet orange oil or lemon essential oil.
For gut health: This is a big one for me and it’s not a pretty topic, I know. But hey, it’s important to stay regular no matter where you are, so when you are choosing essential oils for travel, make sure to have ones that aid in digestion handy and use them every day. There are a few essential oils that help with your gut health like fennel, cardamom, coriander, and ginger – but peppermint is my favorite! Peppermint essential oil also does wonders for concentration, cold and flu, fevers, and muscle pain, too! Rub a little bit on your stomach every morning.
For sleep: Sometimes, sleeping in a different bed and being completely out of your normal daily routine can make sleep seem impossible. I always make sure to have this sleep remedy handy in a roller whenever we travel and at home. We apply it to our temples, wrists, and bottoms of our feet every night and the roller blend is safe for toddler and up!
For sunburn or windburn: There is nothing worse than getting sunburn when you are at the beach! Frankincense is such an epic essential oil, great for so many things (stress, headaches, fatigue and is great for immune support) but will be your lifesaver while traveling if you experience sunburn or windburn. Just mix a few drops of frankincense essential oil with the carrier oil of your choice (I prefer sweet almond oil) and rub it on your burn. I recommend having this blend made ahead of time and carried in an amber roller bottle.
For anxiety and stress: If traveling makes you uneasy, stressed or anxiety filled, having lavender essential oil handy is a must! Lavender is one that I pretty much always have with me because I feel like it can do everything, but it’s also a great, natural perfume, too.
How to store essential oils for travel
Essential oils can easily get leaky pretty quickly. Whenever I’m traveling with essential oils, I will pack up all of my blends and typically transfer anything larger to much smaller size essential oil amber jars, wrap them in plastic wrap and store them with my makeup in the bag that I’m checking. Depending on the airline, you might be able to take some liquids on board with you, but I honestly never quite feel like dealing with that confusion, especially when we have kids with us. I apply it all before we leave, check it and pick it up when we get there. Don’t forget to pack extra plastic wrap for traveling home!
