What to Have in Your Kitchen When You Start The Keto Diet
I shared yesterday that I’m starting the keto diet again after taking a few months off (check out the post here to see how I’m doing a bit of a modified keto diet plan this time around) and every single time I restart and share more about starting the keto diet, I get asked a lot about what to have handy. I’ve been doing the keto diet for so long, that after I get through the first few days, it really is easy and pretty sustainable for me long term. Whenever I first started keto years ago though, I was incredibly confused at the beginning and didn’t realize until I started becoming more accustom to it that I really just needed to have some basic items in my kitchen and I would be good to go.
I don’t want any of you to be excited about starting the keto diet and then feel like you need to make separate dinners for yourself (I mean the thought of making two dinners a night would turn me away for sure!) or doubling your grocery bill – that’s not going to happen here. And in all seriousness, you probably already have most of these items in your kitchen, the others can easily be delivered via Amazon Prime.
And lastly, I know that when you start the keto diet and the rest of your family isn’t doing it with you, it can be a little intimidating. I often will put things into large Ziploc bags and write my name on them so that no one else will eat them, if they do, they will get to see the wrath of Angry Allison. When it comes to dinner, I try to make things as simple as possible by making similar dinners as before (I just don’t eat the carbs) and having something like keto pancake mix handy or salad stuff stocked in the refrigerator so that on super busy night when I throw something together that is not keto friendly – I’ll always have something really easy to whip up for myself.
I’m ALL about making starting the keto diet and thriving on the keto diet as easy as possible. Who has time for anything difficult when you’ve got kids running around? No one!
