It’s so incredibly important to get involved with donating blood as a family because you never know when your contribution will be a life-changing moment for someone else.

The Missing Type
Gr_wing up, I _lw_ys d_n_ted _l__d regul_rly thr_ugh _l__d drives held at __th my sch__l _nd church. It _ec_me a regular thing _nd w_s h_nestly _ m_ment th_t I h_ld near _nd de_r t_ my he_rt. Then, later on in high school, I had surgery and since it was something planned, I was able to give blood and actually donate it to myself so that the doctors and nurses were prepared to pump it back inside me once the surgery was complete. But not everyone has that opportunity to plan and emergency blood transfusions are much more common than you think.
And then growing older and becoming a parent has made my yearning for helping others even stronger. Helping others is so incredibly important. And as we are all trying to raise the most compassionate humans that we can, make your donation a wonderful teaching moment that leaves such a lasting impact. I’m so excited to be partnering today with The Missing Type to raise awareness for just how important it is to be an active blood donor.
Is anything missing?
Notice anything missing from that first paragraph there? How about in all of my photos? Can you imagine your life with any of these items missing? Probably not. Look a little deeper. See a pattern? Yup, all the As, Bs, AB’s and Os are gone? These are blood types that are saving lives regularly, and there is a huge need for more donations. Without A, B, AB and O blood types, life would – quite literally – not be the same.
The hard truth is that every 2 seconds someone in the U.S. needs a transfusion of donated blood. Every 2 seconds. Digest that statistic for a second, moms. It’s scary to think about exactly how much blood is needed to back that up.
As we approach the summer months, these Missing Type Blood Donation Centers struggle with blood donations, as they drop about 20% in the summer months, making the need for all blood types all the more vital.
How can you help?
One whole blood donation has the potential to help up to three patients and with one in 7 people entering the hospital needing a blood transfusion, it makes these donations even more important. Furthermore, blood can be donated every 56 days, up to six times a year – making it easy to donate often. There is an incredible need for blood donations in all areas, right now, and it’s so easy to stop in a Missing Type Blood Donation Center near you and donate.
I can’t stress the importance enough for all of you amazing mamas and your families. We’re working hard here to make sure that we get to our local Missing Type Blood Donation Center so that we’re able to help anyone in need. What are you waiting for?
XOXO,
Allison

I have donated blood many times and so has my husband. He has a rarer blood type, so he goes more often.

Many sadly don’t think of donating until they need it. Good reminder

While I would love to donate blood I really cannot! I have very deep veins and drawing blood is such a project and hassle! I admire those who can!
