Travel Tips for Families: From Moms Who Have Been There
Traveling whenever you have a family to cart around with you is seriously an adventure all on its own. Whenever Branden was little, he was always getting carted around for road trips as we went back and forth from the city to Pittsburgh (Read: Road Trip Tips For Toddlers), but our first trip as a family of four – airplane and all – was when we went to Florida. That first trip was a breeze because Blake was only nine months old and I planned and planned my little heart out. Of course through, trips after that were all over the place because toddler years had set in and even though everything with Branden was super chill, we found ourselves doing anything and everything to accommodate miss sassy pants.
So over the years, I’ve shared my travel tips for families here, covering everything I could think of to make it all easier for your guys. Today, I’m rounding all those different topics up in one place, but starting with some additional tips from my favorite moms on the Internet.
Travel Tips For Families From My Favorite Bloggers
“If traveling with a child under 3 years old, I’ve found a baby carrier to be a must-have. On longer flights you can use it to help lull your child to sleep (just know you’ll be required to take it off for taxi / take off / landing), and while rushing about the airport it’ll allow you to be hands free to manage luggage (or other children / strollers). My favorite travel carrier is Bitybean, because it rolls up to just the size of a water bottle, for easy storage in any purse or diaper bag.” – Heather Wilson Tomoyasu, US Japan Fam
“Load up on small toys from the dollar store. Stickers, mini-color books, tiny action figures. Dole them out sparingly.” – Jennifer Weeden Palazzo, Momcave TV
“When traveling with babies and toddlers, toy/cup tethers are your best friend! You can attach a toy to each end to make them easier to find in your diaper bag and prevent them from rolling down the aisle. You can also use them to tether a bottle, cup or toy to a stroller or high chair so you have one less thing to keep track of!” – Miriam Y. Cohen, The Very Best Baby Stuff
“Aside from wipes, snacks, extra clothes and toys, always travel with some empty ziploc bags. You will be prepared for any messy moments and they are perfect for collecting shells, etc.” – Lyla Naseem Gleason, Globetrotting Mommy
“Always bring extra snacks. And keep the snacks dry. Granola bars, dried fruit, Cheerios, avoid things that can create a mess.” – Gemarla M. Babilonia-Gaskin, The Mommy Elf
