I really started kicking things up a notch in my thirties with my skin care routine – both day and night. We always want to follow our beauty commandments and make the best decisions for our skin, since again gracefully is our goal. But sometimes, we fall into a bad routine in the evening that could actually be harming our skin.

Why do the bad beauty habits happen at night?
Pretty much out of being tired, feeling lazy, and not having enough energy to do things for ourselves after a long day. And sometimes we come home extra late and we can pretty much forget about taking care of our skin at that point. Sound familiar? We’ve all been in situations like that and I would be lying if I said that it didn’t happen to me from time to time, too. We’re all human. But as long as they night time skin care habits aren’t happening regularly, then your skin should be in good shape. If they are, you need to get a little bit stricter with yourself.

These Night Time Beauty Habits Are Harming Your Skin
Not washing your face OR using makeup wipes only. Again, these are things that we all know happen once in a while, but they can’t be happening on a regular basis. We wash our face in the morning, apply makeup as a protective barrier during the day (and to look pretty!), but by the evening time, any build up really needs to be washed off before bed. Believe me: you will notice a huge decrease in break outs, extra oils, and even dry skin in some cases. Makeup is not meant to be slept in. And those makeup wipes that are so trendy? They are seriously just that. They wipe your makeup off, but do not clean your skin.
2. Not getting enough sleep. Just like the rest of your body, your skin needs to recover and repair itself while we sleep, too. If you aren’t giving yourself an opportunity to do that, then you will notice a decrease in your skin health.

3. Forgetting to change your pillowcase often. This is a big one that so many people overlook. I, for instance, change our pillow cases double the amount of times that I change our sheets. We wear pajamas to bed each night that act as a protective barrier between our skin and our sheets, but our face is right up against our pillow each night and if there are any remnants of dirt, oil or makeup, it will be transferred there and then back to your face the best night. Change those pillow cases!
4. Over-cleansing. This is a mistake that a lot of people make – day or night – and I’m here the set the record straight. While cleansing is something totally necessary to do for our skin, it’s not meant to be done many, many times a day. Why? Because as amazing as it is to get rid of dirt and build up from the day, cleansers can also strip away essential moisture and barriers that our skin really needs. 5. Skipping a moisturizer. At every age, we should be moisturizing before bed. This is the time whenever our skin repairs itself and we need to make sure we are helping by giving our skin that regenerative hydration that it needs. And as you start to age, you skin will thank you by producing less wrinkles! Try: Countertime Tetrapeptide Supreme Cream

So, have you been guilty of any of these night time skin care habits? I’ve certainly done some of these in the past, but have done my best to make my skin care routine a priority as I’ve gotten older.
