what I'm packing for vacation

Packing for spring break with kids? Here’s my realistic family packing list, including outfits, travel essentials, and mom-approved tips.

We leave for Tulum in two weeks, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned about traveling as a mom, it’s this:

Packing for a family vacation is never just packing.

It’s preparing for every possible scenario — while also trying not to overpack. It also changes a lot as the kids get older. I find myself saying things like “if you don’t pack it, then you won’t have it – and I’m not worrying about it once we get there!”

I’ve also realized that what we think we need and what we actually need are very different things. For myself, I’m personally trying to keep things simple because I want this trip to be as relaxing as possible.

And if you haven’t read it yet, I created a whole other version of this post that’s all about the things that moms actually need whenever they are on vacation...to make it an actual vacation.

Here’s exactly what I’m packing for our trip.

What I’m Packing for Myself

I will be sharing more details in an upcoming reel, but for now, my highlights for myself are pretty simple:

Easy Dresses: My new favorite here!

Matching Sets: This is seriously the cutest.

Swimsuits + Coverups: Keeping it casual this year in this top and bottom crochet set. And can’t wait to hit the beach in this black and white number – I also am a huge fan of strapless.

Sandals: The most comfy and chic Kate Spade flats here! I purchased them a second time, even after the puppy chewed them.

Casual Rompers: I will be wearing this on repeat.

The Reality of Packing as a Mom

The truth is, packing isn’t really the hard part of vacation — it’s everything we carry mentally before we even leave. I shared more about what moms actually need on vacation here → click here to read!

At the end of the day, creating a realistic spring break packing list for families isn’t about having everything perfectly planned — it’s about making travel easier, lighter, and more enjoyable for everyone. But the truth is, a simple, thoughtful packing list for moms can make all the difference when it comes to actually enjoying your vacation.

Whether you’re heading somewhere tropical like Tulum or planning a family getaway closer to home, focusing on the essentials — comfortable outfits, travel must-haves, and a few sanity-saving items — allows you to be more present in the moments that matter most. I’ll be sharing more motherhood, travel tips, and real-life insights like this over on Project Motherhood, and I’d love for you to be part of it.
